Parkdean - St Minver Holiday Park
Reviewed June 29, 2013

First time to St Minver, and overall extremely pleased and can not wait to book for next year.

Lots of positive points to make, but lets just start with two niggles. We stayed in a Mulberry Caravan, which was listed as Centrally Heated - which it is, but we expected radiators; in fact it was blown air heating. We did not use the heating, it looked a little dusty, and being Asthmatic, didn't want to spoil the holiday by testing it ! Secondly, the Mulberry is about 8 years old, and showing signs of age in the bathroom area. So, I guess we picked the wrong model !

That said, the rest is all positive.

Friendly and fast check in, ALL the staff (poolside, bar, restaurant, maintenance and site manager) were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing too much trouble for them to help with.

The caravan was spotlessly clean, beds made on arrival. Mattress and pillows comfortable.

Location - a quiet site, on an old manor estate, caravans situated amongst tree. We were right next to swimming pool and a stones throw from entertainment. Some beautiful beaches in the area, Rock on the Camel Estuary, Polzeath for surfers, Padstow to name a few. There are lots of cycling routes in the area, and cycle shops for hiring.

The swimming pool and changing facilities are clean and looked newly fitted out.

The kids entertainment, was the usual Sid and Lizzie show, which my son always enjoys. Bingo follows, then light entertainment either by the staff or visiting guests. The club room was very quite when we went end of June, but I understand it gets busier a peak times.

We ate in the restaurant three times, every time the food was piping hot and as described. the best meal for us was the Monday night Steak offer .. two meals and a bottle of while for £25. The steak was delicious :-)

The nearest shops are in Wadebridge, just a few miles away. There is a Co-Op, Boots, Lidl and a few smaller local shops. Slightly out of town, off the A39 there is a Tesco's and "Two for One"
Marston's pub which offers good value, pub grub.

Well done St Minver for helping us have a great holiday.

We stayed in a Trehawk Lodge, absolutely first class, I shouldn’t really encourage people to stay here as it will only make it more difficult for me to book next year. The Lodge was roomy, very well equipped and maintained, the gardens were well-kept and the Food in the restaurant was good quality, good VFM and large portions.
The only point I have is. The shallow end of the pool was 1 meter deep which was too deep for our 4 year old and the toddler pool was too small/shallow for her.
Everyone who worked there was very friendly.

Located in countryside in the grounds of an old Manor house, the caravan was very clean and modern set in woodland near to shop and swimming pool. The staff are very helpful and the grounds are spotless, swimming pool is indoor but the kids loved it. Great spot to explore the rest of Cornwall. Can not comment on the food as did not eat their as to busy exploring!! Fantastic site will come back again. Great little pub though found in village behind the old Manor house food is amazing.

Room Tip: We stayed in a private caravan but Parkdean caravans looked ok too just not as modern

My fiancé and I met my family at the lodge for a few days. The lodge was a good size, and nice and modern. It could have done with an extra settee in the living room to accommodate all of the people it can sleep though as it did get quite cramped at times.

The club house was a fair walk away from the lodge but it was possible to drive there. It had a few things there including some entertainment but the entertainment room was rather depressing and bingo was very soulless. They also had mini golf which could have done with a bit of a re-vamp.

The main problem with the clubhouse is the restaurant. The seating area is tiny in there and we had to wait a while for seats. There’s nowhere else close by really so it’s inevitable that people staying on site would need to eat there. The food was fine, nothing special but fine.

Overall it was a nice place to stay with only a few minor issues.

Stayed for a long weekend with two young children and my wife and cant speak highly enough of the park. We stayed in what i thought would be a basic caravan but it was lovely with all mod cons that were needed including en-suite and an outside decking area. The onsite shop was great and the lady running it was lovely, the swimming pool was the best i have come across in this sort of park it was very clean and modern changing rooms and attentive friendly lifeguards. The childrens play area was good, the childrens evening entertainment was painful to watch but my 2 and 4 year old loved it and it is for them. The local area are great we ate at Steins restraunt in Padstow which was great and not cheap, We also visited a gem of a beach called Daymer beach which had a car park, a cafe, and toilets we stayed all day it was beautiful and safe for the children. we will definately visit St Minver again

I stayed here with my mum middle of May 2013 for 8 nites....this is not our 1st visit as we have family who own a lodge here...so our situation is a little different to other guests. The park is very clean& well maintained & the lodges in the glade are well placed.. not jammed on top of each other as in other areas of the park.....though parking is in large bays & not right by the lodges in the glade...so swings& roundabouts on that score.....the lodges are well appointed with lovely facilities....though v.limited if you are a disabled visitor...all have steps...no ramps ...although the caravans have these.
There is a great little shop with a lovely lady manageress and a pool...but do check the times as it can be misleading as to which ' swims' are when.
The big let down here is the club house/restaurant....for the money that this company charge for lodge hire....and it is exorbitant......what they offer in this area is poor.....though staff are lovely...service is mediocre ....food takes ages to be served...we waited nearly 40 mins and this wasn' t a busy period.....and is pricey for what it is...everything is jammed on top of each other...arcade...restaurant...bar....and this is dominated by a huge tv blaring out sports channels all in competition with the music pounding out from the 'show room' ....head ache inducing does not begin to describe it.
Such a shame as we would love to use this facility...but simply cannot face it at the end of a lovely day......and the thing of it is ....you have to purchase a pass -approx 8.00-to use it!! Not good value.
Luckily there is an abundance of pubs where lovely food is served at reasonable prices.
First of all... the Fourways Inn next to the church is lovely...very homely...lovely staff...serves mains&desserts & yummy Kerov beer....booking is essential at weekends...also does b& b at very good prices.
Next the Pityme in St Minver on the way to Rock...here is a real gem...the chef is outstanding....local fresh produce freshly cooked with real flair...and at reasonable prices....3 courses&drinks for two...around 40.00...very impressive.
A bit further out at Chapel Amble is The Maltsters..a little pricier& you often need to book...but for a treat...its well worth it.
Do not bother with the Rock Inn...its over priced and underwhelming...the best bit about it is the views.
Places to visit are Trevathan farm at St Endellion....Melinsy Mill at Veryan....Roskillys ice cream farm on the Lizard...I could go on...as Cornwall has so much to offer...beautiful beaches...stunning sceney....castles...houses ...gardens etc we hope to be visiting again and again for a long time too come

we stayed in one of the cheaper option chalets orchard rise number 12 and for my disabled mother this was by far the better option. It is next door to all the facilities and she could walk over to the restaurant and its next door to the kids play park. After reading some of the reviews on the chalets i was very worried, but it was for nothing. Lovely big bathroom with a proper bath, living room with nice sofas and a dinning table. The single beds were nice sizes and you could walk round. With someone walking with a stick and a five year old. was a much better option as they weren't getting in each others way. It was chilly at night but for the time of year the heating in the bedrooms was adequate. Not sure what it would be like if it was colder. The chalet was immaculate as every parkdean place i've stayed in always is. I had no complaints we the food i thought it was reasonable. They have offers every night and now have deals on 2 for £10.00. I thought all the staff were great and happy to help. Can't comment on the entertainment as i don't use it. The crane machine with the dogs in, cost me a fortune though lol i eventually won one !

its a good base for that side of cornwall and we had lots of days out. Lappa Valley railway is a great day out for taking a picnic and spending all day, and is reasonable for what you get. Rock beach is lovely, but parking was a nightmare. For rainy days Harlequinns in bude is a great place.

Room Tip: the chalets are cheap and cheerful, but for how long your in them, good value.
