We stayed at Applecroft for 3 nights. We had booked the B&B in spite of its relatively high price as we thought it would have a more personal touch than a hotel. Nothing could be further from the truth.
On our arrival there was plenty of parking space, the couple who run the B&B seemed friendly and welcoming and the room looked clean and beautiful. However, as the days progressed we had several unpleasant surprises.
When we arrived we were asked for our selection of breakfast and asked if it was OK for us to have it at 8am. After that we did not have any opportunity to change it. We hardly had any interaction with the owners - we spoke much more with other guests than with our hosts. A full English breakfast consisted of three spoons of muesli, followed by a single egg, a single sausage, a single rasher of bacon and a single grilled tomato. Usage of toilet rolls, which also had to function as tissues, seemed to be rationed as we did not get a new roll on the penultimate day of our stay. As a result we had to improvise with our own tissues after a late night arrival back in the room. But worst of all, towels which we had put on the floor so they would get replaced were simply put back on the towel rail.
After our stay at the Applecroft B&B we moved to a four-star resort which had the same price per night. It was simply in a different league. The most notable difference: the staff at the hotel genuinely cared!
