Travelodge St Austell Hotel

We have used 4 Travelodge and this is by far the best one. A few minor housekeeping issues all resolved by following day. On a very busy noisy road but shut the windows block it out very well. Fan and heater in room.
A couple of other issues - TV minimum volume was 20! and the settings were disabled so neither we nor the staff could change these. We were told the maintenance team not available (On a Monday at 3:30pm!?!) but they offered for us to change rooms which after a 7hr journey and unpacking we didn't feel like doing.
Small car park area right outside hotel and further parking also available a few yards away.
Right next to a Costa coffee and there is a MacDonald's and KFC opposite.
Cheapest petrol was at Asda (turn right at main road from hotel) and it is on the right. There is a Tesco not too far past Asda on the left.

Went used this hotel for its proximity to The Eden Project (a separate review) It is close to Charlestown a small village by the sea which was famous for the China Clay export. Museum, Antiques and places to eat. (Separate review).

Overall the hotel was clean and well maintained. The rooms were spacious and had most things you could need (with the exception or a hair dryer and temperature controls). The beds were comfortable and clean, and the staff were really friendly and efficient. The one real complaint was that the room was too hot, and even in March we had to use the fan and keep the window open - and we couldn't control the temperature. All in all though, very good value for money and very close to the town and the main attraction (the Eden Project).

Stayed for 3 nights to visit Eden Project, Mevagissy and Padstow. Very comfy king size bed, clean (incl bath water) but very very hot family room on second floor (staff advised no heating on in building - used fan but still tropical with windows open and 10 degrees outside). Hotel is situated on 'fast food corner'- KFC McD ... Dominos and Asda & Tesco 2 mins drive - didn't eat at any of them... Recommend Polgooth Inn fantastic pub 5 min drive, Sharksfin in Mevagissy, Charlie's Charlestown, Nile Bakery on Holmbush Rd for breakfasts.

We stayed here on a Friday and Saturday recently. The rooms are basic but comfortable, and ours was very clean. The staff were helpful and friendly. We bought the buffet breakfast when we booked and it was good vaule for money, with a hot buffet as well as cereals, fruit, toast, muffins and croissants.
The hotel had free parking, and was close to the town centre.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it.
If you are looking for somewhere to eat in St Austell, I would recommend the White Hart inn, which is walking distance from the Travelodge. Good food and cocktails, and also a good jazz singer on the evening we were there.
If you have a car, try the Polgooth Inn for good food.

This travelodge was conveniently placed and easy to find. Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey, the Lizard near by, to name but a few. It was a good centre from which to explore the south Cornish cost, not to forget the north! The facilities are very good indeed, and the inclusion of a 24/7 cafe bar is a welcome addition.

Having just returned from a 2night stay in mid-Feb 2014, we could not fault the staff at this Travelodge. They were very helpful from start to finish. Didn't use their café, so can't comment. The room was very clean and our mid-week stay was very quiet. However, our main problems were: the bathwater. It was dark yellow. Basin and loo were crystal clear. Staff said it was an on-going problem(!!) and that plumber was looking at all rooms that day. Told that night that problem was fixed. Sadly not. Water colour the same. Did not use bath for rest of stay. Other main problem, was that beds were like Japanese sleeping blocks. Exceptionally hard. Asked for extra duvet to sleep on to soften mattress. Made no difference. Staff said mattresses were very new and hadn't been broken in. Shouldn't have to wait for mattresses to be broken in before being reasonably comfortable. Just need quality mattresses. Looked at local Premier Inn on way home. Checked their water and beds. Clear water and mattresses with built-in toppers (just like the ones you would buy for your own home). Sorry Travelodge but will be trying the Inn next time. Am giving the room a high cleanliness rating based on the overall cleanliness of the room - NOT based on the suspect plumbing.

We recently took advantage of a £39.00 half-term deal for a family room for a couple of days away with kids who wanted to return to the Eden Project with the annual passes you get once you've paid to enter - now that's something else that's good value!!

Keeping it short - there was only a double bed in our family room. The poor guy on reception was left for the evening being informed everything was sorted and the day staff had not made the rooms up. He said he would sort it out if we gave him 10-15 mins... 15 mins passed so we said we'll pop over to McDonalds to grab a quick bite to eat. When we returned it still wasn't sorted and we were asked to move rooms, not the most joyous of tasks with a very tired family!
The room we were moved to was extraordinarliy hot so we left the window open, there is a heater but no AC.
For a recently refurbished hotel I felt a little let down, the TVs in each room were well past their time and the hotel looked well used, but was presentable.
We chose not to eat there for our evening meal but the breakfast was excellent! Everyone was well filled!!

I'm sure the bedroom issues were a one off, but when you book a family room for 2+2 you expect for beds!
