Travelodges can be fantastic and they can be awful. This one is certainly awful.

It is too hot, even when it is not too hot outside.

We could not sleep properly because of it, and that is the reason why we stayed, we wanted a place to sleep.

The bath was dirty, but expecting anyone to work in that heat was a joke.

We read the reviews and thought its half the price of the Premier Inn and convenient for the Eden project, how bad can it be. The answer is too bad. Travelodge need to do something about it, because it ruins their reputation.

Whoever designed this hotel should be made to stay in it.

Also trying to cross the road into St Austell is just plain dangerous. Please don't do it, you will regret it.

*If you stay in mid-winter it might be okay for a night.

Pros: clean, tidy, tea and coffee in room included decaf coffee, lovely big comfortable bed.
Cons: noise from traffic, and some kind of internal machinery chuntering away, and it was hot. Noise/heat didn't bother me (I have lived in hotter places), but for some people it would be too much.

Room Tip: Perhaps rooms on lower floors would be cooler?

If only we had read the reviews before booking the two nights stay last week at the Travelodge St. Austell. We had three rooms and although they are very clean and adequate for our stay, the heat was unbearable even though outside the weather had changed and it was not hot or sunny!
The staff were very pleasant and explained because there were no windows either end of the corridors there was no fresh air coming into that area at all, so the corridors were like saunas.
The rooms at the rear of the hotel, which we were told were not as hot as the rooms at the front, were very noisy with the busy road at the back. To get fresh air into the rooms was virtually impossible because of the window locks on the type of windows installed in the rooms.
Sleeping was virtually impossible and we kept meeting people who were standing outside the hotel to get some fresh air, or in the reception area which has air-conditioning. One guest who had a young baby told me they had had such a terrible night and were worried about how hot their baby had become.
In this day and age not to have air-conditioning or more fresh air in a hotel bedroom is definitely putting their clients' health at risk. In the three bathrooms we were using none of their extractors were working either, so it was like entering a sauna every time one wanted to use the bathroom.

Room Tip: All rooms were very hot, hence the small fans placed in them. The rooms at the rear are very noisy...

Have just come back from a 7 night stay at St Austell Travelodge, the staff were excellent and very friendly, always willing to help out with local knowledge etc. The room was very clean and tidy. The hotel is very well situated just on the outskirts of St Austell (a few minutes walk from the town centre), a 10-15 minute drive to Mevagisey (sorry if spelt wrong) in one direction and the same to Fowey in the other direction.
I do agree with previous comments regarding the heat in the rooms which do get quite hot but was assured that it is being addressed in the near future.
If it wasnt for the 6 hour drive to get there we would certainly be regular visitors.

This is the last Travelodge I will ever stay in, ever. I have stayed in many as I travel regularly for work and have stayed here before so perhaps I should have known better... the hotel is incredibly hot. I have no idea why. The water tastes terrible. I ran the bath and the water was brown. If you are standing anywhere near the bathroom you can smell urine. You can not open the window. This is to stop you jumping I assume. £62 ...no internet, no breakfast in this overcharged price. Simply put, avoid.

I booked in for 2 nights but due to work I arrived late to find no space in car park, so had to park in nearby Mc Donalds, breakfast was due to be served till 10am,but on arriving at 9-45am clearing up was well in progress and very little buffet left so coffee toast and cereal and I had to leave. Having booked for 2 nights I arrived back at 8pm, on entering the so called restaurant /bar, it was so depressing and with no draught beer I opted for a local bar 15 minutes walk away. Again the rooms are too hot and could do with a bit of an uplift. Not sure if its because of the School holidays but £160 for 2 nights without breakfast for what they offer is not good

Room Tip: If you are stopping serving breakfast at 9-45am then don't advertise breakfast till 10am.

Your typical older style travelodge. We stayed on the bottom floor and the room were quite dark and depressing. Large sized rooms with a large couch in them. Comfortable beds, good bathroom. A little warm but we just opened the window as it was pretty quite outside. A 5 min walk into town, maccas and KFC close by. Free parking which was great
