“beautiful october gardens”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

at a fraction of the cost of going the the eden project this was great value. the jungle gardens are absolutely stunning and i had no end of things to photograph. about half of the way round we were wishing we had bought the guide though as my parents wanted to know information about some of the plants and areas. i think time of year will vary your experience and i'm looking forward to returning in the spring. i can safely say autumn is great there. the cafe was lovely and i had the soup, it wasn't even as ridiculously priced as some tourist locations. we spoke to one of the horticulturists who told us the plants grown are used in the cafe or fed to the animals who are used in the cafe. we had a tea, then we did the jungle then lunch, then the other side with the vegetable gardens. this was good because then we got the better light in the jungle for photography. there are lots of steep hills and we literally walked miles so wear good shoes if you plan on doing proper exploring. there are also less hilly paths around things. i was disappointed the crystal grotto was just an indent with no crystals, but a sign said it was being renovated so i look forward to seeing it finished given the standard of the other amazing renovation work. i would do this again over eden if it was not raining, and then maybe even if it was raining.

“magic garden”

Lovely place to spend a day discovering plants and flowers. Beautiful and magical. Lucky we had our baby carrier sling with us, it would have been quite hard to get to some places with the buggy.

“Very interesting”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

I first visited Heligan in 2002 when the project was in its infancy and was looking forward to seeing how it had developed over the years.

I was not disappointed because there is sufficient interest there to occupy a full day, particularly when the sun was shining. We spent our first couple of hours on the woodland walk and through the jungle. Some of the paths were steep and rocky but, with the aid of a site map, were well defined and contained lots of places of interest along the way.

The formal gardens around the house are a delight to visit and it is easy to connect with the history of the place and the dedication of the existing gardening team in preserving that history. All the gardens are immaculately laid out and there are some lovely areas just to sit and relax. We had tea and a bun in the cafe and these were very reasonably priced.

This attraction is certainly very good value for money. We spent about five hours there this time and will be returning on our next visit to Cornwall, probably at a different time of the year.

“You need at least a day”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

we visited for about 3 hours,on a coach trip, not really enough time to appreciate it.The guide was really good, telling us about the history and how they are still uncovering a lost section, fascinating.Would be good in summer to take the kids on a picnic as they would love the freedom of such a large area to explore.

This a fascinating place if you love gardens. There is so much to see and it changes with the passage of the year. The history is fascinating. An A1 place to visit.
