“A little hidden gem - never judge a book by it's cover is 100% true here”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Down visiting family we were told to meet here for a meal the other night. Having found it, it's exterior hid the gem that was to be found inside. Modern tasteful decor that made even just sitting waiting to be attended to a pleasure. The food was very reasonably priced, and when it arrived, piping hot, the portions were massive and perfectly cooked and presented. Service was very attentive and polite, the whole evening a pleasure.

“Dont judge a book by its cover”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

The outside appearance does not do it justice.Looks dated and a bit run down. Inside the bar is clean and tidy with very polite barstaff. We were made to feel welcome instantly. After watching the kids play on the play area for ten minutes we went in and were shown to a table in the impressive restaurant. The waiter told us what the specials of the day were and left us too choose. I ordered the mixed grill, partner had the pyramid combo, my 8 year old had ham egg and chips from junior menu and 6 year old had sausages chips and beans from kids menu. Well the food was superb. Not one of us left a scrap. Was great idea to have juniors and kids menus as my 8 year old boy has an appetite for destruction but he was full after his meal. My partners combo was delicious and my mixed grill was out of this world. Cooked too perfection and more than enough for my big appetite. The homemade chips are to die for. Admittedly the toilets are a bit dated but i only went in there for one reason. If your in the area or live local and want good food this place is a must

“FABULOUS - everyone should eat here”
Reviewed February 2, 2013 via mobile

Everything about the place is fantastic. My only complaint is that the portion sizes for the main courses are too big. If they cut down on the portion size they could reduce the price a little.

“Don't leave it so long.”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

We held our wedding reception here in 2008 and stayed the night before travelling to the Isle of Wight. The food is always good and the hot and cold buffet they put on for the wedding was amazing. Our extended family of foodies were greatly impressed. I took Elaine back for a surprise anniversary meal with the family in 2010.

Since then, they've modernized the front bar and dining room with great taste and without sacrificing character. It’s bright and colourful and the lighting is unusually good. New carpet should be in by the time you read this.
Located on the A3058, about a mile north of St Austell, if you’re holidaying and going anywhere near The Eden Project or travelling between St Austell and Newquay or Truro, it won’t be far out of your way. Come here for lunch, a quiet dinner, with friends, family or colleagues. If you’re planning a larger do, check out the restaurant and function room.

They have the same menu they have had for years. In this case, not a bad thing, though. It is a large menu. In a lot of restaurants, that isn’t necessarily good but at ‘The Pyramid’, they always manage to deliver consistently well, using mostly local produce. Everything looks and tastes lively and distinct.
Elaine had a beautiful, fresh, baked Sea Bream. Perfectly cooked. Just translucent. Bang on.
My Steak and Ale pie was to die for . . . except for the shortcrust . . . that had died some time ago. I’m ok with a pub pie that is prepared with lovely local ingredients, and then properly re-heated over a couple of days but in this case, the pastry crust had paid the price. A shame. On the other hand, the filling made up for the alternative, bright, nuclear yellow, greasy puff pastry served in a lot of other places.
Deserts are mostly specials and always yummy.

We really should visit more often. We pass it every time we go to town (St Austell) and always promise ourselves a treat in this warm, family run pub. We won’t leave it as long next time.
