A very clean and friendly hotel. Spa treatments were lovely although the relaxation areas could be improved. Beautiful gardens, excellent golf course and stunning views. Dinner was ok but not excellent and expensive for the quality however breakfast was great.

A nice stay at Carlyon Bay. Room had a nice view but a lot of noice from air con. The rooms are very clean the food is excellent. I have only one complaint some of the staff in the in the bar when serving afternoon teas need to remember food hygiene, and not pick scones up with there hands.

Room Tip: stayed high in room 218 very noisey from air con unit

A very good restaurant, the menu changing daily, the food perfectly cooked and professionally served. This was let down, as usual, by weaknesses in booking/reception: my companion was double booked, the 1st floor room she specifically requested some months previously (the booking confirmed) being occupied by others on our arrival - despite this being her 10th+ visit she was offered little apology or compensation and was forced to accept a 2nd floor room despite being over 80 and fearful of lifts.

The bathrooms are no good at all for swinging cats, and if you choose to use the shower (standing in the tiny bath) be prepared to do battle with a flimsy shower curtain whose only function is to wrap itself around you and prevent you from showering. Other niggles about the 'designed for midgets' accommodation but comfortably furnished.

We went, as always, for the golf school package which offers excellent value, with helpful tuition from the golf pro Mark Rowe, and the opportunity to spend 3 days of golf with social evenings in a group of 10-15 like-minded couples and individuals.

Be prepared to have children around you, though most people treat the hotel with decorum, and respect the smart causal dress code.

Room Tip: Sea views are worth the extra

A wonderful stay at Carlyon Bay.

Lovely food and staff very attentive.

Everything we could wish for, will definitely be going back for a further visit.

The golf course had some interesting holes and great to play.

Room Tip: Inland facing overlooking the front on the hotel. However it was still very quiet and peaceful.

Excellent break - love our stays there always lived up to expectations in every way - the food is excellent as are the hotel rooms. Cleanliness is paramount and shows - We cannot recommend this hotel and golf course highly enough.

Room Tip: We like to have a rear facing room which are superb - love everything about the hotel

Great hotel with good facilities. Several restaurant choices within the hotel. Lovely location and fantastic views.
Nice cliff top walks along the coast. Local golf course within walking distance of the hotel.
I would definitely stay again.

Room Tip: I had a single 'inside' room. Pay extra for a sea view.

I am not sure where to start.......after a 5 hour drive we finally arrived, too early to check in but we went into town and had a nice afternoon. Nobody greeted us on the door as you would expect from a 4 star hotel.
With the room charge of £290 still fresh in my mind and about to slide the key into the door the expectations of what's on the otherside build intensely only to be shattered as the door fully opens and what we see is a pokey room cluttered with prison style bunk beds and furniture that would not look out of place in my late grandmothers room in the care home she left.

The view are great so we took advantage of free tables near the putting green for some drinks. We waited and after 15 minutes my wife had to call over the waitress for our order. I asked for a drinks menu and she looked confused and said "we don't have a drinks menu"????? I was unable to compute this.
I opted for a coffee with milk, missus had a latte and kids had apple juice. They delivered!

I'm trying not to be too spiteful but have to warn others as I'm still challenged on finding the value for money on the £290 per night rate!!

Some of the staff were a little unkept and looked like they had all worked through double shifts without a fag break. It's small detail like this that you can't help but notice when you are being waited on and for me is always the tell tale signs of a good we'll run place.

The TV was a little bigger than portable size, coffee and tea facility was an after thought, the fruit (ripe and unripened) was served in an old pudding bowl.

The bed (the one thing we all really look for in a great room) was pathetic and below average in every sense. It was this old 2 singles joined with a zip down the middle. The worst night sleep I have ever had, kept rolling into the divide and could feel every tooth on seperation. Dreadful.

I could hear the floor boards creaking upstairs as the occupants above went about their business and this kept my missus awake all night.

We both woke at 6.00am the following morning and looked at each other with complete despair.

Before we decide that enough is enough and we terminate our stay with full refund I must mention that we did make the call to the GM upon our room inspection and were dealt with promptly and to an appropriate level. I think his name was Ali and he came to the room, listened to my rant and agreed that he had heard similar feedback from previous guests. Of course he apologised and mentioned they were at full capacity and could not move us but would discount the bill by £40 per night and sent us a bottle of champagne on ice as a final apology.

This was very appreciative and went some way to making things seem a little more accepted but we all know what the wholesale price of bubbly costs large 4 star hotels right? Nowhere near £290!!

It's the morning after the night before and we will be taking breakfast and assessing our options.....

As Arnie once said....... "I'll be back".

Ps. To trip adviser that is not to the Carlyon Bay hotel.
