Room was a bit on the small side but would recommend a sea view room for extra space. Food was excellent and there was evening entertainment on both nights we stayed. Good amenities and a great location for coastal walks. Good Golf course attached to the Hotel. Would certainly go back.

Sea view rooms worth the extra money. The rooms were well appointed and immaculately clean. All the staff were really pleasant and welcoming.Plenty of choice at breakfast and there was always somethings on the evening menu for everyone to enjoy.

The golf course was in excellent condition and inviting to play for all levels of handicaps.Overall a hotel to recommend.

Room Tip: Definitely worth paying for a sea view room.

This was our second visit. That must speak for itself. The five-hour drive from London is well worth it. The hotel is set in a beautiful quiet bay. The golf course is excellent. Indoor and outdoor pools are superb. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Room was comfortable and clean. Service very courteous. Looking forward to our third visit.

If you like silver service with a stunning view, excellent food and wines, plus spa and golf this place is for you. The spa offers high quality treatments in a relaxing and professional environment and the golf course is along the cliff overlooking the bay. The rooms are very well appointed and "day" areas - restaurant, brasserie, tea room and bars - offer a variety of spaces to spend your time if the wether is inclement or if you just want to lounge.
Different activities are proposed to residents on a daily basis. The menu changes every day and there is a good selection of wines, including award winning cornish wines.
This is a very traditionally British establishment and doesn't come cheap, but it's worth every penny.

Room Tip: Get a sea view room: the view is breathtaking! Watch out for offers and always call the hotel to n...

We spent only one night in the hotel, but had a great time. The location of the hotel is just amazing, the golf course is very well kept. We had Sunday lunch and sunday dinner at the hotel, both very enjoyable, better than expected! and the service was good too.Bar area has nice views, pianist in the evening! Walks along the cliffs, spa small but very functional and clean.Basic bedroom is big and comfortable (we were not in the superior), apart from the mattress, which was very soft and worn out and very uncomfortable.

I would recommend it as a romantic escape, even though the average age of the guests is around 65+.

Despite the few negatives, we would go back, mainly because of the location as you cannot beat it and the lovely golf course.

Negatives:
The service in the bar is pretty slow, unexperienced young staff, long wait for the drinks although the bar is empty.
We could not do putting as there were no more spare balls.
Quality of the mattress.

I am a seasoned traveller who has stayed in large to small hotels, b&b's to hostels. My personal take on this hotel was that I found it rather soulless, my high hopes of an amazing hotel were dashed. The overwhelming experience from our stay was the inexperienced staff, some bordering on rude.
The hotel seems to think it is a 5 star with its dress codes but it only just lives up to a 3 star.
Good points: rooms are spacious, we had a sea view, we used the golf course.
Bad points: it's like a retirement village, barely any guests under 75. Staff need training.
Hotel food: We ate in the bar area, I just ordered a soup which turned up just warm and without the correct cutlery or bread as per the menu. I had to ask the waiter, he looked unsure if I could have bread but he did return with a plate full. Soup was cold by now. Next night we tried the restaurant, again another disappointing experience. The steak was extremely over cooked, and so was the fish. My complaint was not taken seriously either.
Bad execution of food and lack of staff experience really brings this place down. Plus the bar food and restaurant food is overpriced. You would and should expect the best when paying Michelin star prices, but unfortunately it was a bit on the Harvester level of food. I would recommend saving your money and staying at a cheaper hotel. The benefits just are not there and there are nicer locations in Cornwall.

The Carlyon Bay Hotel ticks a lot of boxes as far as we're concerned. Due to business we travel a fair bit; however, our recent stay at this hotel was purely for pleasure; 3 + 4 May 2013.
The room was beautiful with the most amazing views from the second floor of the bay. I cannot fault the room at all; beautiful decor; very clean and a highly efficient room service i.e. I returned from breakfast to find staff cleaning my room. In one particular hotel in Europe I have returned to my room at 3.00pm to find the room still not serviced; so excellent in that department. Lots of little extras that are always pleasing; chocolates in room; chocolate on pillow at night; large fruit bowl; good supply of coffee making facilities; bottled water, which was replaced when drank.
Service in bar/restaurant excellent. Drinks not too pricey. I think coffee was around £2.50 so compared to to E5,00 I often see in Europe; very reasonable.
The only reason I have not rated the hotel 5* is the restaurant. We had dinner on our first night in the main restaurant and although the food was very tasty it was a little cool side; breakfast was the same, which I can only put down to it having to cater for large numbers as the hotel was full. However, ate in the bar and in the bistro and both were very good.
If you are looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend away, may not always be the best hotel as there were a number of corporate or group events; so lots of male noisy male bonding (I know woman can be the same on a get together).
Could be stricter on dress code to maintain their standards; saw a couple of people sneaking into restaurant in tracksuit bottoms and trainers! One young person played computer game on high volume, which was irritating for those of us who were there on a relaxing weekend. But at least we could escape into the sunshine; so staff could perhaps be a little stricter on this kind of thing.

Room Tip: Avoid room next to lift; very noisy... but second floor rooms numbered 230-240etc very good.
