I stayed at this wonderful hotel for a three night break. The staff were fantastic throughout, very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated in a beautiful location. Views across the Bay were stunning. The hotel is centrally situated within Cornwall, making touring very simple. Plenty of NT properties and outdoor locations nearby. Dining facilities and food were marvellous with a comfortable lounge area to relax in. There is a gym and spa facilities which were a pleasure to visit. The hotel is spotlessly clean and really provided top value for money. As a solo traveller I felt valued and looked after very well.

One of the best Hotels I have stayed in.
Great reception when arrived staff very welcoming especially Ali one of the managers who dealt with us and sorted any problems out.
The rooms are very comfortable and well equipped with good service.
The food was brilliant, good choice and superbly prepared and to top that excellent waiter service.
The facilities are first class and the golf course a really good test of golf for mid handicappers.
Where ever you went the staff we so helpful and polite its bee a joy staying.

Room Tip: Just enjoy it

Superbly situated hotel particularly if you enjoy golf. Our 5 day stay experienced varying weather conditions and on one of the better days we had a most enjoyable walk along the cliff path into Charlestown, home of the tall ships, and later back at the hotel enjoyed a light lunch on the beautiful outdoor terrace with views across the bay. We found the staff extremely helpful and friendly, the service excellent and the food delicious. We have stayed at the hotel a few times and are always amazed at how immaculate it is kept, our rooms always give the impression we are the first people to use it. Due to the weather being so unreliable it is nice to have the comfortable lounge to read in or there is an excellent pool with spa facilities and therapies available. A down side for some could be the long way down to the sandy beach, but on our last visit to the hotel I believe plans were in progress in relation to this and there was a little car you could book to take you down there.

Room Tip: Choose the price band you feel is right for you, as the three different rooms we have had have all b...

If you are going to Cornwall and want a great hotel in a great location, look no further. If you are a golf fan even better. We stayed for 5 days in a period of cold wet weather. It could have been a damp sqib of a trip if we had chosen a half rate hotel, but at Carlyon Bay everything was spot on.
Service was excellent. ALL the staff were friendly and helpful. We used the lovely indoor swimming pool and my wife also used the spa for a treatment which she really enjoyed. The food was excellent at EVERY meal. It was varied and imaginantive. The building from the outside is 1930's bland, but inside was bright and looked newly refurbished. There were no tired, tatty areas. The seats in the lounge were high quality and comfy. Entertainment was on offer. We had a quiz night, a pianist twice (who was very good), a magician for the kids. roulette, and even a falconry display. (This may have been as it was still the Easter holidays). There was a pitch and putt course and a putting green outside the building and the full size golf course was a short walk away. We walked down to the beach which was a 10-15 minute stroll. We were there at 8.30am and it was deserted and wonderful. Well worth the effort. Car parking is out the front and were normally no problems getting parked. Places to visit in the area included Lanhydrock (NT property), which was a must and was not far away. St Michaels Mount was a super place to visit and was about an hour or so. We enjoyed the trip to Megavissy taking the ferry at Fowey to get there. It was much nicer than Polperro where we also visited. We also visited Trerice (NT property) which again was not far away, near Newquay and was a lovely smaller NT house.
The only place I would not waste any time visiting would be St Austell.

We went to play Golf but British weather being true to form prevented this, although one day we did manage 4 holes on the terrific little Par 3 course before the heavens opened. The Gardens are beautifully manicured and the Hotel is one of the best I have stayed in. It is spotlessly clean, the Staff are lovely and extremely helpful. The food is wonderful and there is a lovely Pool, indoor thankfully although they have got an outside pool. The only slight gripe was as usual in Hotels the price of the drinks were ridiculous (nearly £10 for large glass of Pinot Grigio)

Room Tip: Pay extra for a sea view and a deluxe, I gather some of the other rooms are small. We had 239 and it...

May I first prefix this review by stating the food was, as always, delicious on this occasion (with the exception being the supermarket quality burger rolls which were served as the bread accompaniment!) However the service was very, very poor.

Once seated in the restaurant (we had ordered our food in the lounge) our food was served during a reasonable timeframe, but trying to attract a waitress/waiter's attention was nigh on impossible. I don't know if it was lack of staff or just a lack of interest but the wait to order a glass of wine was interminable. I did note that most of the waiting staff were very young, with the exception of the maitre d', I don't know if it's a training issue but the (lack of) service really was a disappointment. I do recall service being an issue when we were here at Christmas but I just thought it was one of those things as the previous meals we'd enjoyed at the hotel had been fantastic with attentive service. However the poor service seems to be a reoccurring issue.

The theme was continued when we asked if we could take coffee in the lounge (as we have on every other occasion) - the first waiter said he'd check and come back to us, if we'd waited for him then we'd still be at the Carlyon Bay now.... The next waiter we asked told us to go through to the lounge and our coffees would follow. So we went. And we waited. And waited. And waited - for 45 minutes. During this time I asked two separate waiting staff where our coffees were. The last one I asked told us that coffees weren't being served in the lounge that day and we should have remained in the restaurant to take coffee. Nevertheless on this occasion she would order some - which we finally received nearly an hour after we'd left the restaurant. There's absolutely no way we would have stayed waiting like fools for so long had our children not have been watching a magic show in the children's club (which incidentally is a great touch, our girls also loved the animal show at Christmas) - we would have simply left - and probably not bothered to return.

As we left the Maitre d' did come out to apologise but by then the damage was done. We'd sat and witnessed several other families being served coffees/teas/sandwiches whilst we had continued to be left to sit like lemons. A real disappointment on this occasion.

This was our first stop over during a 4d / 3n sight seeing trip through Cornwall. After a long stretch from London and visits to Lanhydrock House & Garden plus Charlestown it was an absolute gem. We took advantage of the gym/sauna/pool/jacuzzi area - very very relaxing. Good room, great dinner with a good wine list selection and very nice breakfast accompanied with good service. Great location and setting, next time we'll come to play 18holes golf, which is also included.
