“Still a great Hotel in a stunning location.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

We have visited four times over the past five years and always want to come back.Super service ..great food(best we have had this year) and lovely pool and spa.The views from the dining room of the sunrise are stunning and its worth a bit extra for a sea view room. The golfcourse is always reasonable even after wet weather.Staff are most helpful and courteous without fawning all over you..altogether a very pleasant experience. My only criticism was rooms could have been warmer ..the extra electric radiator was over complicated and our towel rail was only warm.Amazing deals off season and golf really is for nothing. Will return soon.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth it...view is lovely.

We stayed here between Christmas and new year for three nights booking breakfast and evening meal in our package. We travelled with our children aged 7, 12, and 23 !! We booked two suites which joined through a door, fantastic size rooms which had stunning views. Our suite had a large corner bath with jacuzzi which was a surprise as this was not mentioned on booking, the rooms were kept immaculate by chambermaids and were very friendly and helpful, we ordered breakfast in our rooms every morning this came prompt at the time requested and of an excellent standard everything you could wish for all very tasty and warm. Evening meals were also very good and of a high standard staff were very attentive and prompt, our children are not fussy eaters having eaten in restaurants from an early age but there is also a good children's menu if required. Sadly we were unable to use the hotel spa as my youngest son was recovering from surgery so we felt it fare not to use it. I did take a look and it did look lovely so maybe on a return visit !! Clientele tend to be of a more senior age not very many children were here not that this bothered us proudly I can say our children are well behaved (most if the time ) the hotel did have a flying display laid on sadly the wind was too strong for the birds to fly, the lady was very informative and made it still very interesting.
I don't like to be negative because this hotel gave 100% it most areas sadly I felt reception was disappointing from check in. We had a stressful Boxing Day having had to travel to bristol hospital unexpectedly from Plymouth for a routine operation for our 7 year old son. The hotel had been called from here to say we would still be arriving and made aware of our circumstances as all he needed was rest I asked if we could have a DVD in the room the reply was yes. This was not the case and there was even no mention if we needed anything or indeed asking after our son it was like we were an inconvenience. We asked for food to be ordered for our room she handed me a pen and paper for me to write our request down.
The next evening my husband reminded me we had a complimentary bottle of wine for our room, I had to ask for this again at reception but dealt with by another person who apologised not her fault I must add. I looked up our booking form on line i also noticed free cream tea and Christmas lunch this also had not been given out I had given up asking by this time as I felt embarrassed to ask again . I don't mean to be negative as we did have a wonderful time here and so relaxing the best beds I have ever slept in I must add in any hotel worldwide . On a more positive note we had arranged for a local company castle air to arrive by helicopter to take us for a family flight as a surprise Christmas present they were very obliging to do this for us which was a wonderful family memory to treasure for ever , so thank you Carloyn Bay hotel for this we are very grateful it made up for our stressful Christmas .

We have been staying for 3 night breaks for 20 years. We were there in 1996 when the hotel won AA Hotel of the year and the standard has not dropped since. Food quality can vary a little but is always of a high standard.
Service and cleanliness, with attention to detail, cannot be faulted. It is the perfect hotel for a relaxing break with coast and gardens to visit after a round of golf on the excellently prepared course attached to the hotel. The pro maintains an excellent shop with a specific outlet for ladies. We love it.

A little dated in terms of decor, but very, very clean with wonderful views of the sea.
Ask for room 107 or nearby, as it is central and has the best panoramic view and also a shared balcony. The inside rooms looked to be small and with no view, which is part of the reason for coming.

The Table d'hôtel menu had a limited choice, but both my own and my wife's food was very good indeed.

Visit Fowey, Sams' restaurant for great seafood and its just a nice place to,visit. Also, The Eden Project for a great day out.

Spent my third consecutive Christmas at the Carlyon Bay Hotel. As always, a lovely Christmas atmosphere, excellent dedicated staff and a most attentive Manager who leads from the front. The staff respond very positively to his relaxed leadership style.
Hotel was immaculately clean throughout and the indoor swimming is excellent. The food and the dining room service was very good. The entertainment provided during the festive period was very enjoyable.
Two of our friends came with us this year and we have all four booked again for Christmas 2013.

We booked for 2 nights last minute, and on arrival were met by welcoming doorman and receptionists, who immediately advised us that we had been up-graded, great start ! We had a sea facing room, not the biggest but very clean and well presented, as was the whole hotel.
We booked BB&ED, and the meals were excellent all served by the most attentive staff, so much so that we booked another night.
Golf tee times were booked for 2 days, and despite some dreadful weather just prior to our visist, the course was in good condition, with inclusive golf, a real bonus. We took advantage of The Spa which was spotlessly clean and inviting.
The hotel has a warm family feel, and the staff are great, we have been before and will go again.

I returned with friends for a One Night Stay and was able to enjoy the Festive Menu which was offered by the Hotel. It was a wondeful night. The staff were so attentive, the food was excellent
and my room spectacular. Three of my frends had not visited the Carlyon Bay previously. All enjoyed themselves and are going to be returning again in 2013.
Thank you to you all for looking after us so well.
