“The quiet manor house.”
Reviewed July 10, 2014 via mobile

This was a last minute one night stop over, with Cornwall being so busy this time of year, we wanted a quiet, comfortable and chic country location, and lucky to find a room at all.
What a find this hotel was, it was such a shame we didn't arrive till late in the evening, and had to be away by 10.00 the next morning, so the wonderful pool, restaurant and spa was a waste for us, such a lovely place.
The 17th century hotel, which has been fully restored and modernised, Has been done with a real passion, and a credit to its owners, all the rooms and furnishings, have been made over with top quality materials and furnishings.
The grounds are fantastic, and very large, parking not a problem, staff are friendly and very helpful.
We had time for breakfast, which was excellent, and a large choice on the menu, it was lovely, sat in the conservatory, sun shining, and the doors open... Memorable.
The only reason we didn't give this a top score, was that we had such a small room, and the en-suite was little bigger than a cupboard, and very dark, again though the bed was comfy, and beautifully decorated....just to small, and still we thought, very expensive for the size of room, but I suppose its the last room the hotel had to use, and we were the last ones in, or refused by others earlier, so we ended up with its use, at 21.45 you can't be bothered to drive on, or try to swap.
This room is called the Anne room, all rooms named after authors, a nice idea, just be aware, if your told your having the Anne room, its small...!!!
We would stay again, and would recommend it, just not this room...!!

This weekend was bought for us by our daughter. We were made very welcome on arrival by the friendly and professional staff. The staff we very helpful and the room was to die for. We stayed in the Scarlett room absolute luxury. The food in the restaurant was absolutely fabulous and breakfast was fantastic. This was a very relaxing weekend away for us and would thoroughly recommend this.

Room Tip: The Scarlett room was fantastic. Bedroom, ensuite and lounge area.

My wife and I visited here in June 2014 with friends from USA, we were treated by the very friendly owner David who gave us the tour of a very impressive property. We stayed in one of the standard bedrooms which was extremely well appointed and comfortable, there is a great swimming pool and hot tub. We ate at the hotel first night and the food was fantastic, well presented and cooked. Second evening we stayed out touring until late evening, when we arrived back at the hotel the bar was closed but David came down and opened up so we could enjoy a night cap. Staff were top notch and all very friendly, we were well impressed.

Room Tip: Nothing wrong with the standard double room, we had Dorothy but will try an upgrade next time, and t...

We stayed here for three nights in June whilst visiting the Eden Project and Heligan. We had the Elizabeth room which was a quite spacious with a King-size bed, dressing room and bathroom. It also provided access to a private patio/garden with table and chairs which was a nice touch (see photo). The room decor was a bit over fussy for our taste. Breakfast was a good cold buffet with tasty hot courses cooked to order. Dinner was a la carte from a reasonable menu, if a tad expensive. We tried the table d'hote which was OK but the choice was somewhat limited.
The staff were universally welcoming, friendly and efficient. The hotel is located in a quiet, tree-lined location just off the main road wit easy access to the local sights.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with its own patio/garden.

My girlfriend and I had a lovely time here. The staff were all excellent, the food was lovely and the hotel itself is amazing. We had ate at the hotel both nights with drinks before and, even though my girlfriends cocktail wasn't on the menu, the staff went out their way to make it (and it was as good as she has ever had). We both had a massage before setting off on our long journey back and it was totally worth it. The swimming pool and jacuzzi were the cherry ontop of a delightful weekend away. Highly recommended!

We stayed here for 2 nights in the Emily room. The room had once been quite luxurious but was showing signs of being tired. The furniture is now outdated, the bedding heavy and the mattress had completely collapsed making sleep less than comfortable. One the first evening and the following morning there was no hot water. Breakfast is very ordinary, and does not reflect any care for quality or local produce.
Staff try hard. The most disappointing thing was, when we made the owner aware of the issues with the water, he failed to communicate any remedy, he stayed upstairs and let the waiter deal with the problems (during breakfast service). We had to press for some recompense and he grudgingly agreed. A simple sorry and maybe the offer of a drink at the bar would have given a better result and a feeling that this place has some merit. It fails to deliver. My recommendation is to stay elsewhere.
