My partner and I have just returned from a three night stay at the Cornwall and what a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable three days it was. We arrived on Sunday afternoon and were immediately impressed with the surroundings and the professionalism of the reception staff. The hotel has a welcoming feel about it and we were given all the info we required. We were directed to room 136 overlooking the gardens but wanting to make the most of the view we asked to move to the higher floor, this was done without question, nothing was too much trouble.
The room was light and airy, spacious, well decorated and clean. The beds are really comfortable with feather pillows and proper duvets (not quilts).
We ate that evening in the arboretum restaurant and the food was very good, the staff attentive yet not intrusive and the whole experience most enjoyable. We ate there again on Tuesday evening and the food was even better. We only had breakfast on one morning as we are not really breakfast people, it was served promptly and was very nice, I opted for cereals and fruit from the breakfast buffet and my partner had poached eggs and bacon which is served from the kitchen not from a hot buffet as suggested in another review.
I went for a pleasant swim on the Tuesday afternoon and found the spa to be very clean, very well presented and the staff very welcoming and helpful.
We took our two dogs with us and found the hotel to be very "dog friendly" and the spacious balcony served us well for dog beds and dog bowls and the like, we were also put in a room near to an exit to the gardens which made life much easier than traipsing through the hotel reception area with the dogs.
The prices of food and drink are comparable to that of any hotel of this type, not over priced and one doesn't mind paying a tiny bit more if the service backs it up, which it did.
We will be returning to the Cornwall, it's a great place to escape to and as we live only 20 minutes away it is ideal.
Running a busy hotel/restaurant/bar can be pretty demanding, I know, it's what I do, and I have to say the Cornwall hotel and spa does it right. Since some of the earlier reviews have been written a new operations manager has taken over the day to day running of this hotel and seemingly after only a few weeks he is working wonders. We saw no evidence of any of the negative points in earlier reviews and wish the team every success in the future. Trust me, it's a great place to stay.

This was our second stay at the Cornwall Hotel Spa this year.

Our first visit earlier this year was a mixed experience, the potential of the spa, the lovely grounds and fresh, contemporary style of the rooms is huge, but there seemed to be too few staff and there was some disorganisation.

Very happy to report that that seems to have been fixed now. We found reception staff to be professional, very friendly and unfailingly helpful, attention to detail in the room (e.g., replenishing items) was better, and the Duty Manager in the restaurant came to speak to us personally, which was a very nice touch. Staff seemed more friendly yet focussed. The Arboretum Restaurant is a very pleasant place to eat. Our meals on both visits, by the way, were excellent. Our spa treatments were superb and the pool and facilities a pleasure to use.

This is a new hotel, obviously settling in, but recession-permitting, I think will go from strength to strength, and it deserves to. A lot of thought and care has gone into the site. Now that the staff and duty management are providing that warmth and human touch, it can only get better. Thank you Cornwall Spa and Staff - very well done. We plan to keep coming back.

Room Tip: The higher room numbers are a bit further from reception to walk if you have heavy luggage...

After not having my appt booked (which was highly disappointing) the staff went out of their way to make our day enjoyable.
I booked a spa ritual day for me and my mum on her birthday however after printing mistakes on the voucher and bring told that I should cover the mistakes with 'sticky tape!!!' i rung to clarify details of out appt however was informed my appt hadnt been booked even tho I visited the hotel in person to pay and book!! Fair to say I was very upset however after visiting the hotel for a second time and speaking to the manger who promised complimentary drinks vouchers and goodie bags I was not disappointed the staff were attentive and friendly the massage was lovely and the girls were friendly and chatty. ( used the couples room only advisable if your happy to shower with you companion!!) had a lovely light lunch and champagne, personaly I'd recommend using the pool and sauna before lunch then have a treatment to make the most of the lovely oils they used. only complaint the pool was on the cool side but overall a good day.

I have recently come back from a wonderful weekend stay at this hotel. The room itself you couldn't fault and the staff were lovely. We ate both nights in the arbotorium and found the food to be a very high standard. I must admit breakfast was a bit hectic but that was probably due to everyone leaving it to the last minute so there was a bit of bustle. Loved the spa although I do feel some of the staff were a bit curt!
All in al though a wonderful weekend and will be staying again. We stayed in the Clifford suite which was beautiful.

I booked this hotel for a weekend spa treat for myself and partner without our hildren. We attended a very nice Xmas party here and thought it would be nice to try it for ourselves.

We upgraded our room but to find out it was just a bigger bed!! There are obviously problems at this hotel and we wanted to love it but just lots of little things missing. The evening meal was delicious great steaks and a nice relaxing lounge with a mass of lovely books. The grounds and location are super and beautiful but just didn't go the extra mile.

The spa was nice but missed a nice private jacuzzi just a small whirlpool stuck on the end of the main pool. Staff seemed disinterested and again didn't go the extra Mile seems as though this was a special birthday treat. Colours in the hotel are nice but the rooms just seemed a bit small and pokey .

Room Tip: Request extra pillows as ours were small and flat! Request a room at the end as it is near the spa a...

I'm really surprised at some of the recent reviews as they certainly don't reflect our recent stay. From beginning to end we had a wonderfully relaxing time and found the staff and their service to be amongst the best we've experienced. Having had a long drive we arrived early at the hotel, 10:00, were meet with a friendly greeting from Phillip at reception and were just in time to have a full cooked breakfast. Yes it took 15 mins to arrive but we were in no rush - however the staff were disappointed and took it upon themselves to give us the meal complimentary. When we returned to reception we were surprised to find that Phillip had sorted out our room and even though check-in is usually 15:00 we were able to settle in and go to the spa to relax. We enjoyed all our meals for the 3 days we were at the hotel and would especially recommend Sunday lunch. One evening we thought we would watch a DVD in our room and Becky at reception went out of her way to track down a portable player for us. This was our second visit in 6 months and will certainly not be our last.

From start to finish our stay at this hotel was disappointing - checking into our room took an unreasonable length of time and we were kept on being told it would be ready in 10 mins then had to wait for it to be checked etc. The room was fine but very 'travel lodge' like - we went over to the spa in the hope to book a couple of treatments but due to lack of staff they were unable to offer us anything.
Dinner in the so called fine dining of the Arboterum restaurant was terrible - we were seated by a window which over looked a car park - not the view one would expect from their top restaurant considering that the hotel does have beautiful grounds - we were served by a waitress who clearly was new to the job and untrained - the service was very slow, we ordered a bottle of champagne as we were celebrating - it didnt arrive until our main course and then the waitress said she didnt know how to open a bottle of champagne - so we had to do it ourselves !!!!
I spent the entire evening killing flies/mosquitos which plagued our table and were also evident in our bedroom but to a lesser degree.
The food was ok - nothing special and most of it felt like it had been microwaved.
Breakfast the next morning was appauling - everyone was getting very irrate as tables werent being laid quick enough for the volume of people wanting to eat at the same time - there was very few waiting staff on duty and those that were - were not very efficient - nobody seemed to be in charge and food ran out - lots and lots of people were kept waiting for them to replenish the breakfast which is buffet style - particularly the hot food ran out and left people queuing for ages waiting for more to come - it was a modern fawlty towers - I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - expensive for what it is and it needs more staff - someone to take control and run the place properly - definately a case of "all the gear but no idea"!!!!!!!!
