“Very good campsite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2010

This is an ideal campsite for couples looking for a beautiful location and want a gentle camping experience. As we opted for breakfast each morning and ate out every night we didnt have to bring any food related equipment. The breakfasts are well worth it - they are brought to your tent and are delicious giving you a choice of either hot, museli or croissants. The campsite is basically a hill but people are either situated at the top or bottom where it is more or less flat, which we encountered no problems with. The views are amazing. As the campsite is small and there is 1 loo, shower and utility sink I think big families looking to stay for a week or more would perhaps want more in the way of facilities, however, for us it was perfect. I didn't have to wait to use anything and everything was very clean and nicely presented. There is a very homely and personal feel to the place which I really liked and Deborah, the owner, was very helpful with advice on where to go etc. Definately recommend this place and will come back!

What a lovely way to spend the weekend. Deb and Neil were so welcoming and being brought breakfast to our tent in the morning was such a treat. Although the amenities are slightly in the basis side, they are clean and well presented. Even though there was only 1 loo and 1 shpower we didn't have to queue at all. The views are amazing over the harbour and the shops only a short drive away.

Would certainly go again!

We've just returned from a second stay at Broad Meadow House having last year found it to be ideally located for exploring much of Cornwall. The campsite consists of a field adjacent to Broad Meadow House with a toilet/shower/utility block in the garden of the house. As there is only one toilet and shower the number of people on site at any one time is limited to 12. The facilities are always clean and only once or twice have they been in use when we've gone to use them. Deb (the owner) is really friendly and welcoming and always stops to chat whenever you see her and happily recommends places to visit or eat. Day trips we particularly enjoyed were the Eden Project, Lost Gardens of Heligan, Fowey, Looe and Polperro, and Padstow, all of which are in easy reach of Charlestown. Further afield Lizard Point and Kynance Cove are well worth a visit. In Charlestown, Charlie's cafe is great for breakfast or tea and cake in the afternoon and Wrecker's restaurant is good for dinner, especially for fresh fish.

Good points: A much hyped campsite in a beautiful quiet location, great as a touring base and it's unusual in that it's small (12 guests max) and offers pre pitched tents and breakfast. Bad points:No local shops for simple supplies like bread milk and water. The camping field itself is described as being on a 'slight incline' which is a worrying bit of litotes as the gradient is certainly not 'slight'. The facilities are embarrassingly poor. Only one toilet and one shower room between 12 people inevitably means queueing in the morning and this menial facility is located in the owners back garden right next to their house and a fair distance from the tents. There's also no hot water for washing pots and pans and no facilities for drying on a not uncommon wet day. It's comparitively quite expensive for what it offers and we were disappointed.

What a fantastic idea and a great place.
You turn up, there's an immaculate tent already up with lovely bedding, supplies for hot drinks, a view of the sea, the sound of the waves and breakfast brought TO YOUR TENT in the morning. Heaven. The sunny owner Deb is really friendly and helpful, they've done everything really nicely and it feels really exclusive as there were only 3 other tents in the field. Charlestown itself is very sweet and we ate at the excellent Wreckers, a mere 5 mins walk away.
