This place is a must if you are in the area. Every bite of food is delicious, and the service exceptional. The chief even came out at the end of the meal and chatted to everyone. We booked for a Sunday for the 'pot luck' menu as it is slightly cheaper. I was impressed by the choice of great food, and not having a full at a cart menu actually made picking slightly easier as everything sounded so good (there was still plenty of choice). The value for money is amazing! other places i have been to of this outstanding quality were at least twice the price. I loved the extra touches, especially the fudge at the end!

I suffer from anxiety so asked for a corner table when I booked and it was provided perfectly. its a small restaurant and the staff put everyone at ease.

The only (very slight) down side is the location. Its set in a row of shops which do not reflect how great this place is. There is a pretty beach down the road however, and we spend some time relaxing there before the meal.

I have recommended this place to my family and I will defiantly go back if i have the chance.

We were recommended this restaurant by Antonia and boy, did it live up to our expectations! Exceeded them, in fact.
Firstly, Emma was a stupendous Maitresse d'. We had originally booked for 6.15 due to the restaurant being full until 8.30 but as the men's Wimbledon final went to 5 sets I called and asked if there was any possibility of changing our booking to 8.30. Emma was so understanding and empathic about our circumstances. She said come when you're ready. As you're 2 we'll find you a table. What a delightful, welcoming a approach! We loved the place before we had even arrived there!
Food was creative, taste bud teasing and delicious! So many complementary tastes in each dish.
3 courses for around the £24 mark. What value!!
At the end of the evening Brett came out from behind the open kitchen and we had the opportunity to hear from him, first hand how he creates some of the dishes.
Altogether, a fabulous evening! Only wish we lived locally!

Hard to find any fault with Austells, everything we ordered was fantastic, the service couldn't have been better and the whole evening was thoroughly enjoyable. Definately merits a visit from anyone in the area on holiday, with some interesting dishes on the menu there is always an incentive to come back again.

We had excellent food and the service was very friendly although time between courses was rather slow. They did apologise frequently but would have been better had they staggered the clients and not had most arriving at 8.0pm when they had difficulty coping. The food was very tasty and well presented.

We ate here following the great reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. If we had not heard about Austells on the site we would not have visited as the exterior is very unassuming and the restaurant is tucked away on a small parade of shops. However, inside is a lovely restaurant, nicely decorated with an interesting layout so you can see the chef in action.
We had the mussels, a mussel risotto, with wild garlic bread, and fried mussels. This was delicious, with interesting textures and enough to convert a non-risotto fan. The duck starter was also interesting and delicious, although a little rich. For mains we had the pork belly and lamb, again these were beautifully presented and gave a nice combination of flavours and textures. The desserts were definitely stars, the flaming brulee and delicious salted caramel and banana parfait, which was light and delicious, definitely ended the meal in style. We only wish we had been staying in the area longer in order to visit again.
