Myself and my partner stayed at The Driftwood Spars at the beginning of August for 3 nights and had a double room at the back of the building above the pub and over looking a garden.
Our first impression was lovely old building in a great location, we were encouraged to reserve a table in the restaurant as it was a Friday night which we agreed to. Our room was small but adequate with tea/coffee making facilities, TV and an en suit. Dinner was delicious and there was a good band playing in the pub as there is most Friday and Saturday nights.
Unfortunately we did not find hearing the band whilst in our room that good thankfully they finished at midnight, it would be worth asking if your room was above the pub if your a light sleeper.
The other unfortunate fact was the appallingly uncomfortable, lumpy, hard as a board with springs poking out!!!!! mattress which really made us feel as if we had aged 50 years upon waking each morning.
Staff were generally helpful and friendly- even so we did have to wait nearly 45 minutes to be served for dinner one evening and upon complaining about the mattress (quite loudly and annoyed) to a girl who just wasn't bothered at all no apology was offered.
Generally a nice place with history, beautiful views, rubbish bed (Room 5), good food, quite a lot of teenage staff and extreme nonchalant about any kind of complaining.
Take from this what you will.
