The perfect Valentine's weekend! Friendly, knowledgeable, unobtrusive staff; subliminal food, totally deserving of the Michelin Star - Chris Eden is a master of his craft; fantastically comfortable, beautifully decorated rooms and communal spaces and spectacular Cornish seaviews. Even the weather which had been atrocious all week changed dramatically to warm, glorious Spring sunshine all weekend. Thank you all so much for a wonderful stay, we will return!

Nothing too much trouble and the staff are on another level - always available, always attentive and simply make your stay a pleasure. The food is to die for and having visited several times I am always surprised by how inventive Christ Eden and his team can be. I overdosed on fish but the Lemon Verbena pud was out of this world. Hope to be back again soon.

Well where do you start? The staff are very welcoming from the start. The hotel is smartly decorated throughout with the Cornish traditional driftwood theme and tucked away with stunning views of the South Cornish Coast. The weather for our stay was awful, 90 mph winds and driving rain but who cares when you can relax in your bedroom watching the waves crash against the rocks. Now for the best bit!!! Dinner was simply AMAZING!!! Worth every penny. You can choose from a standard dinner menu or try the taster menu with 7 small portions with a wine suitable for the dish in between. We went for the dinner and it truly was the BEST DINING EXPERIENCE I have ever had. The staff are friendly and very professional. Don't dilly dally....... Book Driftwood.

Room Tip: A sea view room is a must

We love this hotel and returned for just one night in order to take in the Truro City of Lights procession. A cold November evening but really worth the wait to watch the parade, extremely well done and we were very impressed with Truro on this our first visit.

Driftwood is as good as ever and was the highlight of this short break. Paul and Fiona are to be congratulated on their standards and their professionalism, their attention to detail evident wherever you look. Indeed they had a famous violinist staying while we were there but were very discreet about it, we didn't hear about it from them.

Our room, this time in the main house, was warm and very comfortable and the early morning tea discreetly and perfectly done.

And as for the cuisine, this is truly a fine dining experience, our only complaint being levelled at the Michelin people - why, oh why, hasn't Driftwood got two Michelin stars, they most certainly deserve more than the one they already have.

We would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to any one looking for quality, a great location and extremely good fine dining. We shall be back.

We returned to the Driftwood 18 months after our first visit. Another great stay. In our opinion the food has gone up a notch in that time. The staff are nothing but excellent. The location and it's views remain stunning. We shall return.

These things are personal opinions, of course. The dinner was outstanding and definitely amongst the best I have ever eaten - the choice was such that it was difficult to decide as the dishes all appealed which happens rarely. The hotel itself is nice but not exceptional - I think the owners are honest in not making claims that it is a top notch hotel and the breakfast was good but not exceptional..

Driftwood is a top end boutique hotel with a wonderful michelin starred restaurant at its heart, perched over the beautiful, vast and blue Gerrans bay.

It was a real treat to stay for 3 nights on their off season package that included both bed and breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. My concern was that one can have too much of a good thing, but 3 days is long enough to explore most of the menu if you are a couple, but short enough to avoid fine food saturation (just).

Our room had fantastic views which gave the feel of a space and calm even though the room was by no means huge. Decor was calming and all in all, a wonderful place to stay. There are a couple of lounges, with the restaurant and bar at the heart of the hotel. One lounge is large with open fire, comfy sofas and plenty of reading material. The other is smaller and not really appropriate to use during dining service as it adjoins the restaurant. Overall, it's like being in someone's home, not a hotel - that takes a little while to get used to if you haven't stayed before.

I can imagine in summer, the expansive split level terraced grounds overlooking the sea must be a real delight to sit in, sipping a cocktail or a glass of wine. There is also a beautiful outside deck surrounding the restaurant and bar area to sip aperitifs or digestifs when weather is warm enough.

In terms of service, a previous reviewer wrote "formally informal" and I can see where that comment comes from. The staff are very experienced, but because the restaurant staff double up to support the hotel guests, that professional michelin starred approach percolates throughout. For instance, even if you want a plain old cup of coffee in the lounge in the middle of the day, it's presented with a little touch of professional panache.

Whilst all staff are professional, some have a more formal or guarded approach than others. Don't be intimidated by it, it's not intended to intimidate; they just take genuine pride in what they do. We made an effort to develop a rapport with the staff to make things less formal, it worked pretty well with some of them.

Here, the customer definitely comes first - this business is not run for the ego of the owners, nor will you find teenagers just looking for a bit of pocket money. We could sense the pride that the owners have in their business, and rightly so.
