“Loved this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013 via mobile

We stayed just four nights at Driftwood, but would have stayed many more and we will definitely stay there again if we get the chance. The hotel is set on some acres leading down to a lovely beach. Views of the coast from the hotel are sublime. We were given the cabin, which is down a little path between the hotel and the beach and while I can understand the cabin would not be for everyone, it was perfect for us. It is self contained and extremely private with unbelievable views. I think the view each morning from the bedroom window is probably the best I've experienced. The hotel itself is charming. We ate one night at the restaurant and the food is well deserving of a 'fine-dining' label. The attention to detail by the owners is excellent, from the pieces of driftwood craft found throughout to the olive-tree topiary in the reception and the girl's school hats hanging in the hall - all charming and wonderful. The staff were responsive and friendly but it is the location that gives makes this hotel worth every bit of five stars.

We stayed here for three nights of our honeymoon, having first stayed here about 6 years ago when we first got together. It was just as lovely as we remembered it and the staff are just as great. My partner said that the food he had there was the best meal he had ever had. He loves sailing, so being able to see the sea from our room was fantastic. We did venture out for some walking along the coast path, and can recommend the Hidden Hut for a spot of lunch. The whole thing really was the best possible de-stress after several months wedding planning.

Room Tip: We were in room 10 which has an alcove in the corner where you can sit with views of the sea on both...

Quite possibly the best granola any of us have ever tasted. Shame it wasn't for sale! Hotel was beautifully situated on the cliffs with great views from our bedroom, terrace and restaurant. Despite not really being set up for kids, the hotel staff were lovely and our bedroom had a separate second kids room within which was perfect for our two children. They were so happy to find story books and a tube of smarties each on their beds on arrival.

Beach just below the hotel had great rock pools for the children. The area was quiet and inviting for strolls along the beach. We were very happy to stumble across 'The Hidden Shack' which did great home made lunch options as well as ice cream and coffee. Afternoon tea back at Driftwood was a pleasure, beautifully made scones, delicious clotted cream and jam and once again very accommodating staff. We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evenings, mainly because we didn't want the hassle of keeping our kids perfectly behaved for the benefit of those diners who had come out for an adult meal, beautifully cooked and presented. If we go back sans kids we will definitely be enjoying the delights.

We have just returned from 4 nights at the Driftwood hotel to celebrate my 60th birthday!
It is a really lovely hotel, staff are very friendly and attentive. The owners dog, a lakeland terrier called Buffie is such a character, very sweet. We had a beautifully appointed bedroom, room 14, very clean with a great view. The food is simply the best we have ever eaten!
Breakfasts are amazing and the dinners are out of this world. The attention to detail
is so very impressive. We really have never eaten such consistently magnificent food.
The hotel has a very relaxed ambiance. We ate the most delicious cream tea on the decking on the sunny side of the hotel, with the most wonderful views of the sea.
I will always remember my birthday with great affection. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: PS Please ignore my rating for swimming pool as there is not one there! I could not delete it!!

We stayed at The Driftwood last weekend for a birthday treat. The hotel is in a great location, the grounds are beautiful. There are private seating areas in the stunning gardens which are lovely and peaceful. The private beach is wonderful. The food is outstanding with a large, varied menu, everything we sampled was perfect and we'd love to go back and try more. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The room was really comfortable with a great sea view. Everything was perfect and we would highly recommend it.

The owner was 'dining in' with some friends last night... and the discussion subject as I walked past was TripAdvisor, although I don't think that Driftwood has anything to worry about. It's a very well run and friendly place. Guests range from pale city types to honeymooners to home counties poshies. Morning newspaper count was around 50% Times, 45% Telegraph with a few Daily Mail sorts and one rather forlorn Daily Express.

For real people, Driftwood is a relatively expensive proposition, but only superficially. It's very good value and actually I'd rather stay here for 3 nights than most other places for a week.

The restaurant has a Michelin award and really is terrific. The novelty of eating food of that standard and sublety with a sea view hasn't worn off yet.

There's a wildflower garden with bees, to sit in, a very restful experience.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for. Don't fear the room with no sea view.

This was our fourth visit to Driftwood in two years. It is somewhere to go for that special treat. Everything about this hotel is perfect. The staff are friendly and attentive, without invading your space. The bedrooms are all different, but so far, all those we have stayed in have been very comfortable and have all had great views of the sea. The decor in all of the public rooms has been tastefully chosen. The restaurant provides truly magnificent food, with good and varied choices. The hardest thing is trying to choose what to have as all the dishes sound delicious.
If the weather is good, there are plenty of comfortable chairs and loungers around the grounds to relax and enjoy the views and if it is not, you can view the dramatic weather from the public rooms. The Driftwood is a real gem.

Room Tip: Always choose a room with a view of the sea
