Owner description: RIB Sea Safaris and Power Boat Trips from Rock North Cornwall with Cornish Sea Tours. What better way to explore the awe inspiring coastal scenery and incredible wildlife of North Cornwall than by powerboat? Our boat SeaXplorer is a 9m RIB which seats 12 passengers and is based at Rock on the Camel Estuary just over the river from Padstow. We meet at our office on the Rock pontoon and then away to sea. We run boat trips to various locations from Rock out towards Newquay or Bude and regularly see wildlife such as Basking Sharks, Dolphins, Porpoises, Seals, Sun Fish and all sorts of sea birds including Puffins. We carry several pairs of binoculars on board so you can see them all up close.Your skippers are always qualified by the Maritime Coastguard Agency and have in depth knowledge about the local wildlife and geology. The tours run for 2 hours and cost £40 per adult and £30 per child under 14. Life jackets are provided. We do recommend bringing a warm layer, a waterproof jacket and trousers and this summer perhaps some sun cream. In particularly wet weather we can provide full waterproofs.

An amazing experience and I would advise anyone wanting a really fun boat trip on a fast, safe rib while at the same time seeing dolphins, puffins, seals and other wildlife while learning about the amazing coast and maritime history of the area to book your seat now! I have been on the boat twice now with different skippers and both were knowledgeable, interesting and professional.

From the first phone call to book the trip this felt like a really amateur outfit. It now seems to be part of a Polzeath surf school where all contact was with clueless teenagers. On calling the office I was told the manager was on the beach and no one knew the password for the iPad to make a booking. They called us back and we booked for 11am two days later. Having travelled to Padstow (£5.40 for parking) we got the ferry to Rock (£12 for the five of us), arriving at 10am. I then called to check all was OK and ask where we should meet. As instructed, we found the young lad at the pontoon at 10.50am who kitted us out with life-jackets an sat us in the boat at 11am. For the next 45mins we sat waiting for the skipper to arrive to take us on the trip. The young rep (looked about 15) did his best in the circumstances and spent most of the time on his phone trying to figure out what was going on but could offer no explanation - until finally admitting the skipper had got 'mixed-up'. I called the 'office' and was told by the girl at the other end that she was 'on the beach' (which she confirmed was very nice) and couldn't help us. We then decided to abort having wasted half a day of our holiday and £17.

My advice - these guys look to have the more exciting boat trip but book with your eyes open. It may not be worth taking the risk. Boat trips now seem a side-line to the main surfing business. We wish we'd booked one of the more professional alternatives in Padstow.

Our kids thought this was the best part of our holiday (if not their lives so far!). The boat was expertly skippered and we all enjoyed bouncing over the waves at speed. The skipper was very knowledgeable and described the coast and wildlife really well. The best part for me was how we tracked the dolphins down - using a group of gannets who seemed a long way off as a clue to their location. Suddenly we were surrounded by a large group of dolphins swimming and jumping right next to the boat. Add a sunfish and a couple of jellyfish and the whole experience was awesome. We could have stayed for longer but sadly after a couple of hours at sea we had to leave. Thanks to all involved.

I would strongly recommend this tour to anyone staying in the Rock/Padstow area. Excellent skipper who handled the boat well with good descriptions of the coast and sea life. The coastline is beautiful and the highlights included spotting a sunfish and then joining a pod of dolphins. Wonderful fast trip back but never felt uncomfortable or insecure. This is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Top marks and thanks for a great trip. Tony McShane (Oxford)
