Lansdowne Guest House
Ranked #4 of 10 Redruth B&B and Inns
Reviewed August 29, 2012

We recently had the pleasure of staying at the Lansdowne Guest House in Redruth for a family wedding being held at a larger Spa hotel nearby. We had the family room and we were all very impressed with the space and cleanliness of the room and the friendly welcome we all received upon our arrival and throughout our two day stay. The room/beds were very confortable and were furnished with all the items one would need - including bottled water. Breakfast was prompt and very tasty, a good set up for the long wedding day. The guest house is well located for the A30 and is a stones throw from the railway station, making it is an excellent base point for any extended exploration stay in Cornwall - less than 20 minutes drive to beautiful St. Ives. We often visit family in Cornwall and this guest house will definately become our new base point. I would like to say a big thank you for such an enjoyable stay.

I can't speak highly enough of the Lansdowne Guesthouse. Not only did the house have a lovely atmosphere, with nice, clean rooms which had been thoughtfully prepared, but the Webbers really were the perfect hosts. They were warm, humorous and incredibly welcoming, thoughtful without being intrusive, and made my short stay there a memorable one.

Recently I stayed for a break in this delightful guest house. There was quite a crowd of us as it was a family reunion. Wiht all the reallies there was a lot of coming and going but Mark and Marnie Webber proved to be delightful and friendly hosts nothing was to much for them in helping us. Due to the age of my mother they were considerate in giving us the front downstairs room, as we had stated we had been traveling two days from Australia. This guest house is well appointed, situated on Clinton road and only 5minutes walking into Redruth centre, With bus and trains very readily avalible for further travel. One of the highlights of my holiday was that Cornwall offers some wonderful biking trails, flat to more challenging terrain. giving great photo oppurtunity of the country side. At one stage I got lost but found the locals very helpful in giving directions.

Mr and Mrs Webber were really perfect hosts - not intrusive but anticipating our needs to the last detail. For example, I was leaning on my stick after the brief walk from the station and we were immediately offered the downstairs room. What struck me most was that they had all the time in the world to stop whatever they happened to be doing, to hear and chat about our day, as though this was the most important matter to attend to. Another example of the extra attention to guests was the way each table had fresh flowers: just a small bunch, picked probably from the garden but with fresh water each morning. All 6 of us had a really great long weekend.

Have stayed at Lansdowne a few times and have never been disapointed. Always receive a warm welcome, so much so that it really does feel like a home from home. Every room we've stayed in is well appointed, spotlessly clean and very comfy. Breakfast is a joy, whether it's the full English, with the best bacon I've ever tasted, or the continental option, it's always served with a smile from host Mark who is friendly and helpful without being obtrusive. It's very reasonably priced for the quality and service you get, can't imagine some much pricier hotels doing any better.

Really like the fact that although it is situated on a quiet road, it's an easy stroll in the town centre and to the railway station, which is perfect when you want to have a break from driving and leave the car behind. (Can highly recomend catching the train to St Ives, saves the hastle of driving down the narrow streets and the trip along the estuary from Hayle is absolutely beautiful.) Whenever we go to Cornwall we have our favourite haunts but always manage to discover some place new, and if we're stuck for idea's, Mark and Marnie know the area well and have suggested some lovely places to go that I doubt we'd have found on our own, their local knowledge is a real bonus.

Lansdowne is a lovely family guesthouse, you really feel like you are staying amongst friends and we won't stay anywhere else in Cornwall. We've tried a few places to stay on our travels that have come up very short of the mark, but now we have found this gem we need look no further. After all, why settle for second best, when ecverything that you could want is here?

Room Tip: Any room is great, even the Standard Double room is well apointed and has stunning views to some old...

This is by far the nicest Guest house we have ever stayed in. We were welcomed with cups of tea, and informed that we'd been upgraded from a standard room to en-suite. As my husband has recently had a knee replacement op we were delighted with this, and even more pleased to see that we had the bedroom just opposite the breakfast room. The bedroom was beautifully appointed and decorated, with comfortable beds and central heating - important as it was cold and raining! The bathroom positively gleamed. The guest house is fairly centrally located, but is in a quiet residential road, no problems about on-street parking. Breakfast is substantial, and cooked to order. The hosts were welcoming and helpful, but unobtrusive. Can recommend highly.
