“Amazing Riding Holiday!!”
Reviewed May 31, 2011

A huge thank you to all the staff and horses at Wheal Buller! :) This was my first riding holiday, and i can honestly say it was everything I had hoped for and MUCH MUCH more! We had a packed schedule with unlimited riding, hacks, beach ride, flatwork, lunge and dressage lessons and even opportunities to try side saddle and bareback. All the horses are beautiful and the teachers were particularly supportive, considering I am a novice rider! I really learned a lot over the week, the lessons challenged me but I always felt safe and supported.
The accommodation house is really lovely and comfortable, and the hot tub was so welcome at the end of a long day in the saddle! :) The food was really yummy and they were kind enough to make really delicious vegetarian meals just for me....!
I thought it was particularly impressive how the staff encouraged us to learn about, and get involved in the day-to-day care of the horses and stable management while we were there. And also how the staff were able to be flexible about our timetables so that each individual rider could do the schedule of activities that was right for them. It felt like a place where you would be welcomed whatever your age and riding ability, alone or in a group.

Wheal Buller is a fantastic Riding School and i couldn't recommend it more! i certainly hope to come back as soon as I can! :)

Best Wishes,
Evie, from London xxx

“Absolutely Fantastic - Life Changing”
Reviewed May 31, 2011

My son (aged 8) and I (aged 40+) enjoyed a fantastic riding Holiday at Cornish Riding Holidays (Wheal Buller) We arrived Sunday afternoon settled into our twin room with small en-suite shower room both were clean and totally adequate for our needs. We then met the rest of our group who would become great friends over the coming week. There were single people, friends holidaying together, husband/wife.Our riding abilities varied hugely from ourselves, son just off lead rein, to me not having ridden for 25 years, to the complete beginner, to people who owned their own horses and wanted to brush up on certain skills. Our assessment lesson came next which enabled the instructors to slot us into groups which would meet our needs over the coming weeks. It is very important for me to stress despite the range in abilities these were catered for fantastically over the week, sometimes we worked in different groups sometimes we were together but a no time did anyone feel ill at ease. We chose our ponies, some of us had a different pony everyday, some people had the same pony all week, the ponies/horses are all lovely, the ponies know their job without being dull and boring. They all still have their characters which makes Wheal Buller so different from many riding establishments. Our days were filled with as much riding as our bodies could take ! we had lovely long hacks, small jumping lessons, beach rides, pub rides, lunge lessons, schooling lessons basically we were asked what we wanted to do and our needs were met every single one of them. Over the week we all progressed from our start points, my son who arrived on the lead rein left jumping a small course of jumps without a leader, fantastic progress, I regained and remembered some of the skills I had learnt as a child plus lots more and loved every minute of the week. The evenings were spent as a group in the cosy lounge soothing our aching joints, chatting over the trials and tribulations of the day, the highs and lows and frantically watching the weather forecast for the following day. Needless to say a bottle of wine accompanied with chocolate seemed to help most of us forget about our aching bodies!. Not that we needed chocolate the food provided was lovley. The lunches were my favourite I adored the home made soups, served with jacket potatoes salad pasta etc, evening meals were good wholesome food ranging from cottage pie to spagetti bolognase all home made lovely and of course a very healthy pudding was always on offer (calories did not come into it after a full days activity) So how would I rate the holiday overall. Well I have been fortuante enough in my life to travel to some fantastic locations worldwide but this holiday was different this holiday changed my way of looking at life. This holiday was fantastic I would not have changed anything (bar a few more sunny days) the astmosphere, the company, the ability to learn and lots of laughs. The ponies/horses are fantastic watching their characters and tricks and ways was fantastic they really are very very special.
My son subsequently returned on an all inclusive unaccompanied childrens holiday the following summer (aged 9 then) he absolutely loved his holiday. We dropped him off the the Sunday did not hear from him until the Wednesday ... and that was only for him to ask "had we packed a wash bag " ... Day 4 !! ... He had a lovely holiday, made good friends, became a little more independant within a very safe environment and improved his riding considerably. Unfortunately we did not hear much about his holiday on the way home within 100yds of leaving Wheal Buller he was fast asleep in the back of the car absolutely exhausted not to stir until we pulled up on the driveway at home 2.5 hours later !!
I would recommend this holiday 100% whether you are, friends, single, a child going on a childrens holiday, a parent considering sending your child (rules are clear and concise for the children and adheared to) or a couple wanting a holiday your every need will be catered for in a very normal, level headed, friendly way.
So why did it change my life ? ... well, I loved the life, I loved the joy the ponies brought, so we subsequently bought our 2 ponies we had on the week of our riding holiday, I gave up my career of 23 years as a senior banking to take my BHS exams and work now on a livery yard. The pay is no where near my previous career but I can honestly say I have never been happier in my work in all my life.
One final thing and final recommendation ... my son is returning again this summer for a childrens holiday and the days are being ticked off the calender already !
Enjoy your holiday

“Fabulous holiday - loads of riding”
Reviewed May 26, 2011

Just returned from a fantastic riding holiday at Cornish Riding Holidays/Wheal Buller Riding Centre. Huge selection of horses, all of whom are well schooled and know their job. As much riding as you like; we did up to six hours some days!! Mixture of hacking and lessons. Staff all lovely - sympathetic and friendly. Excellent facilities (indoor and outdoor schools and a cross country course) and wonderful scenery. Food very tasty and plentiful. Hot tub very welcome at the end of a busy day. Accommodation very comfortable. My only complaint - the shower in the main bathroom was a bit feeble :-). Thanks to everyone at Cornish Riding Holidays. Can't wait to return.
