Warm welcome from owners, made our 4 year old and dog very welcome. Room had great view. Menu was basic but fish and chips was one of the best we've had. Beach is still dog friendly at the moment but some one is lobbying for this to change.

We (my wife & I)stayed around the corner & wanted something to eat so we went to the rising sun for an evening meal even though some of the reviews weren't good. We went into the entrance & the place didn't look good but went into the bar & was a little surprised. It was an old worldy pub with wooden beams, flagstones on the floor, big open fireplace & we loved it. Not many people in there, just a few locals but they were friendly enough, the staff were also friendly & couldn't do enough to make you feel welcome. We ordered scampi & chips & pasty & chips & it was great, couldn't fault the food at all as it was freshly cooked & very tasty, Chips golden brown & crispy, the scampi was done perfectly, (some places where you get scampi its full of liquid where it was frozen & not cooked properly) & the pasty was done in the oven as it was crispy flakey pastry. This is not a gourmet establishment where you need a suit, (can if you want) its just a great old fashioned pub where you can relax & have good simple home cooked food. Perhaps the only downside was that it wasn't all that warm if you were away from the fire but it was in January

This is with out doubt the proper local pub, the staff are very friendly and also very helpfull. The fresh fish and chips are to die for, just make sure you get Sharon to cook them. The room we stayed in was very clean and the view...well book room 9 and find out. You must partake of a few beers with the locals on a friday evening... a great way to get to know locals...oh and as I was told ask about the SKIP.

Room Tip: book room 9

We visited whilst on holiday in port melon. The staff were friendly, the food good, and the view spectacular. A pub we would like as our local!
Our six year old was made to feel welcome which was great, as we have experienced some pubs/restaurants being less than family friendly.
The only downside was the lack of outside seating, but that couldn't be helped - just one of those things.

I have stayed at the Rising Sun twice now. The rooms that I used were a basic and good size and very clean with a view of the sea, the staff were very friendly and helpful (Even offered to lend me a kayak to go round the bay.) The food on offer was basic but good pub food. I would recommend and will be going back.

The Rising Sun is a friendly and welcoming old fashioned pub selling proper local beer and simple but tasty food. Not a restaurant, not a wine bar, just a darned good pub! Its setting in an unspoilt cove is a bonus. We enjoyed visiting several times during our week in a nearby holiday cottage.

We visited this pub as we were staying nearby and it had been recommended by the locals to us.
The pub is lovely and cosy inside, with a big open fire, It has an olde worlde style feel to it, but that is what makes it so lovely. Who wants a modern feel to a 17th century inn!
We ordered food, and it was very good, and also good value too.
The bar staff were very friendly, helpful and welcoming.
We will defintely be returning!
