“Good Entertainment, Poor Service”
Reviewed October 16, 2011

Before we arrived we received notification that we had been upgraded to a 'Luxury Plus' caravan. I can only sympathise with those that were not so fortunate. Our caravan was damp infested and the curtains didn't fit the windows - those that did were not attached to the curtain rails. Our party consisted of 2 couples and, possibly because of our age, we were placed right next to the entertainment complex. The entertainment didn't finish until around 11:30 most nights which made it difficlut to get an early night - difficult for those that were not sleeping well on the uncomfortable beds. I benefit from being able to sleep anywhere, but I do snore so I was banished to the living room on more that one occasion. One night I pulled out the extra bed from under the seating area only to find a sweat encrusted mattress with no sheet to cover it - so I slept on the seat. Remeber - this is 'Luxury Plus'.
I will say that the entertainment on-site is excellent. The nightly entertainers are very good and those members of staff, whatever their rate, are not paid enough in my opinion - they were brilliant. The bars are all clean and modern, with an excellent selection of drinks. The Spar shop on site seems well stocked and the fresh stuff looks excellent. The places to eat on site - a Burger King and a 'Wetherspoons-style' bar - are again very clean and modern. We were most impressed with the on-site facilities - while looking a little dated externally they were very good once inside. The indoor pool (outdoor is closed in October!) was small but adequate - the flume is good for the kids.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 'St. Pirans Close' section - avoid it if you want a good nights sleep as it...

Stayed for one week in a platinum caravan. Superb quality accommodation . Facilities required are all on one site. Pool(both indoor and outdoor) . Very impressed with the site and staff.
BUT.......... Very expensive. Eg. Classed as long stay I.e sat to sat by the hire shop. Wanted £24 to hire an ironing board and iron!!!!!!!!
Cafe bar , top prices and poor , bland food. Portions abysmal.AVOID!
Finding the caravan proved to be a challenging task. More help would be good advice to haven.
Overall, a great site, good location to both the beach and perranporth.

When we arrived we were allocated a chalet. We found this was absolutely filthy. The matresses were stained, the carpets were filthy and the old brown curtains were hanging off. None of this however compared to the smell! It made is heave. The windows were all wide open, presumably to try and mask it. We complained and were given a caravan. This turned out to be already occupied! The third place we were given, a caravan, was clean apart from the windows and half a dozen bogeys on the walls. It was so bare that we thought maybe it had been cleared out for removal. It was in the sand dunes so we couldn't get the car very close and damaged the exhaust trying. There werent enough utensils to cook with. We were booked for the week but left after one cold uncomfortable night.

This was the 2nd time we have stayed here, the first time being October last year. Both ocaisions have been through the Sun newspaper offer.
I was apprehensive at first given the price and the fact I had never stayed on a holiday park before, needless to say we had a great time.

This year (as last) we were booked into a standard caravan however both times we have been allocated superior quality vans.

This year we were located in van 703 which is in the 'Atlantic Heights' district of the site. Initially when I sw the site map I was concerned as to how far away from the amenities we were but I soon ceased to be concerned when I saw the amazing sea view out over Perranporth.
The caravan itself was stunning, it was modern and spacious, 37' x 12' with 3 bedrooms. On entry it appeared very cleam throughout, there was the odd are that could ave been cleaner but not as much as to cause concern.A negative point would be the broken blind in the front window. We reported it straight away, not because we wanted it fixing or to be relocated but more to avoid being blamed for it. We were told it could take 3 hours for the maintnenance team to come out, again we weren't concerned as it was not going to ruin our hols! Within an hour the engineer was with us told us it could not be fixe and would need replacing which he promised to do the following day. He never returned and the blind remained broken. The only reason I cite it as a negative point is because they promised to return to replace it and failed to do so.

The loung was lovely and gave an amazing veiw over the bay. all the bedrooms were pleasant and clean, the beds wern't outstandingly comfy which annoyed the wife and mother in law but didn't trouble me.

The kitchen was adequat for our use and we manaed to cook some great meals in there.

The bathroom was comfortable with a spacious shower which was very hot and powerful.

The site itself offers a variety of activities, all of which were well advertised some were at an additional cost other were included in the fun pass purchase. The is a well stocked spar on site which is slightly more expensive than off site convenience stores.

The Laundry is larger but extremely expensive,we hadn't planned to use it but our little boy was sick in the night so we needed to do a small load. A standard wash cost £5 and £1 got you ten mins in the drier, not too mention having to buy a pack of washing powder from the Spar. On our final day we found a launderret in Perranporth town which was considerably cheaper.

The amusments offer a range of gaming machines for all ages and plenty of ticket type machines where you cash your tickets in for a prize at the end of the week.
The live lounge is where the evening entertainment takes place with a variety of shows, we only stayed for the eary stuff for the kids, our boy being under 2 was too young for the shows but the older children that were watching seemed entertained and the entertainment team did a good job with there being some tongue in cheek adult references thrown in to keep the parents amused! drikns were priced no more than any other pub really, and there was a good selection. never saw the adult entertainment so can't comment.

The pool was clean and pleasant it wasn't overcrowded howver I can see it being very busy during high season. Only one flume and the outdoor pool was closed. It doesn't seem to compare that well to other haven sites pools based on looking through the brochure.

There is a choice of food outlets. A papa johns pizza which will deliver to your caravan. We had one last year and it was excelent. There is a Burger king, agai had one last year and found it better quality then offsite burger kings restaurants. And finally the onsite restaurant/bar. We had breakfast in there last year and found it disappointing, it was very similar to army mess feeding and of low quality so we avoided it this year.

Peranporth town is a pleasant small seaside town with plenty of gift shops and surf shops and 2 lovely ice cream parlours. We had fish and chips from 'Browns' near the seafront, it was good quality with 3 meals costing just under £18 for 3 very large portions! The other bars and restaurants seem reasonably priced, there are a couple which seem to be over priced (Griffs Grillin particular) the Curry house is very nice indeed!

The beach is beautiful with a large pub tucked in to the dunes.

Perran sands advertises that the beach is accessible from site over the dunes, which is true, you do however ned to be fit as the dunes are very steep its about a 20 minute walk from the site to the beach over the dunes, I wouldnt like to attempt it lugging all the family beach equipment though. There is parking down by the seafront for £4 all day.

All in all both our stays have been great. The staff on site were all very helpful and friendly. When we arrived home we discovered we had left our video camera in the caravan, we were convinced that we would never see it again and did't fancy a 300 mile journey back down! We phoned the reception who dispatched someone to check, and within half an hour we had the answer we had hoped for, that it was safe and they would post it to us. The camera contained thousands of pictures of our son from birth which were irreplaceable.

Needless to say we will be returning!

Room Tip: Atantic heights offers beautiful sea views!

Good points:- beautiful setting near a lovely beach, good price, our Bichon Frise loved everything about his holiday, site was very clean with plenty of recycling bins, the amenities were a short walk away.

Bad points:- as we had a dog with us, we had to book a standard caravan which was smelly and grubby and too near to the other caravans. The worst part was a very uncomfortable bed with a lumpy mattress.

What would have made it better? Why not allow dog owners to book better quality caravans and charge a refundable damage deposit?

Booked a Fri-Mon deal (30/09 - 03/10) to follow-on from our Sun Holiday booking at Devon Cliffs. (We stopped at the Otter centre near Launceston en-route).

We booked a standard caravan with no linen and no entertainment passes - and that's what we got. No complaints though - the caravan was basic, but it was clean and big enough for the 3 of us (all adults). We were located near the path to the beach which was ideal for us as this is where we spent our 2 full days here with wetsuits and body-boards. The path down to the beach was steep but it is well worth the effort. The alternative is to drive round to Perranporth and park there.

When the tide is out, you can walk between the beach at Perran Sands and Perranporth. There is a small hut at the bottom of the path at Perran Sands but, being out of season, it was shut so I am not sure what it offers. A tractor-based ice-cream van visited various points on the beach, otherwise refreshment was BYO or from the shops at Perranporth.

We used the caravan park simply as a roof over our heads - as such it was the ideal location for catching waves and frisbees on the beach. For that reason, we are highly likely to return.

We just got back froma four night stay in a caravan on this park. We arrived early (around 1.30pm) and were delighted to find that we were able to check in early (instead of 4pm). We were allocated number 359 in Polzeath View which was lovely and quiet. We were within walking distance of the amenities but didn't have to listen to any of it! We mainly used the caravan as a base to explore Cornwall so we didn't make use of any of the activities on site but I was impressed with the selection and variety. The Spar on site was very good and literally had everything. We also ordered a pizza one night from Papa John's which delivered to the caravan and that was very good. Caravan was very clean and comfortable. Location is great, roughly a five minute drive to Perranporth, 20 minutes to Padstow, 20 minutes to Roseland Peninsula and 35 minutes to Penzance. In general we were very impressed and would definitely stay again.
