“Good food”
Reviewed July 21, 2012 via mobile

First time we had been here, called here for lunch, bar very clean & tidy, good selection on menu, we found our food very well cooked & tastey, good value for money. Worth a vist.

Stayed at the Royal Inn for a couple of nights recently, my third visit in a couple of years. Room was comfortable, double bed, tv, etc... had a couple of good nights sleep. Evening Meals were something to look forward to - large portions, very tasty and filling, and inexpensive. I have yet to have room for a dessert. I always ate in the Bar where the locals eat / drink, although visitors may eat in the quieter restaurant. Will definately stay here again if I need to be in the area.

Room Tip: Front overlooking the Railway has best view

Friendly, helpful staff - all doing their best to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The rooms (we had 'premier') were large and well furnished with comfortable beds and all the facilities you'd need (including coffee/tea, CD player and DVD). The wardrobe was a little on the small side, but had plenty of hangers, and there was lots of drawer space.
The bathroom was a decent size and kept very clean. The shower is in the bath, so not as large as some might like, although perfectly adequate if not very powerful.
Breakfasts had a wide choice and were served quickly. Coffee pots were a bit small but there was no problem with asking for refills. Food in the restaurant was very good (excellent hand cut chips!), with large portions at very reasonable prices (including well-priced wine). The pub part seems to be popular with locals.
The location feels off the beaten track a bit and yet is almost next to the station (on London-Penzance main line and local branch line to Newquay); trains can be heard from the outside tables but not at all inside the building, especially as the bedrooms are well away from the line. This would make a good base for exploring this part of Cornwall - close to the Eden Project and Fowey; not far to Heligan, etc.
Incidentally, if you cross the railway bridge and take the path to the left, there is a very pleasant area of paths through wetlands and around a small lake - good for a walk after dinner, etc.
Overall, we felt the hotel provided excellent value for money - it's not a 5 star place, just good at what it does.

We were made to feel very welcome and special even though we arrived late for our stay. The rooms were spacious and clean. We would definitely recommend this pub for a weeks' holiday.

Recommended to come here - food was delicious - the young waitress though very nice and friendly was a little nervous and inexperienced and told us and offered us the wrong sides dishes with the meals but overall nice surroundings.Cannot comment on rooms as did not stay.
