4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014 via mobile

We have just got back from this hotel where we had a lovely stay. The hotel in a very quiet location overlooking the sea. The staff are a credit to the hotel, friendly, helpful and hardworking and nothing was ever too much trouble for them from the initial booking to the time we left. The rooms were tastefully furnished and very clean. Lovely smelling spa products in the bathroom to use! The food was beautifully presented and the chef needs to be proud of the meals we got served. There are rooms within the hotel to chill out which were comfortable and very nice . The only criticism we had were the breakfast menu did not have a full English breakfast which would of been a nice choice but we did see other guests having this which we were not aware of. The second day I just got served one sausage on a plate! So be aware and ask. We would recommend this hotel but we would not have paid their full rooms rates as we were lucky enough to get a external special offer. Also it would be nice to have seen a proper reception area not a round table with a computer on with wires showing underneath.

Thank you for you very kind review it is great to receive such positive feedback specially concerning the team. I was sorry to learn that breakfast did not quite meet your expectations. We do provide a varied menu for hot items which is generally well received however if you don't see something you like on any of our menus we are more than happy to cook by request. Thank you again for your review and I do hope we will see you back at Polurrian next time you are visiting the Lizard. With best wishes from Yvonne and the team.

Our young family , dog and my hubby and made the 6 hr drive and when we saw the sea we weren't disappointed ... A fab , fantastic Gm was present as we arrived , she was very calming and hands on .
Food was great in the hotel, and dietary needs were totally respected , pool area very clean .

Staff need help some amazing staff Lisa and Portuguese guy .. Others new and didn't have a clue , maybe train more before they start to work as can be frustrating for guests ...
Rooms also need a little refurb and didn't rate the room product sorry , conditioner wasn't great ... Maybe go bk to elemis or molten brown / temple spa !

We had a fab stay thank you and we will be bk

We stayed for three nights over a weekend with our 1 year old and had a fantastic time. The hotel is really set up for families but I think we would have been happy to go there before we had a baby too, it is all very relaxed. The Vista lounge is lovely and we spent most of our time in the hotel there, there are lots of comfy sofas and a fab view, boxes of toys, magazines etc. so something for everyone. All of the staff were very accommodating and nothing would have been too much trouble.

Our room was lovely and we had a sea view, the bathroom was nice and it was all really clean. We used the crèche which is a great facility with lovely staff and a really nice space, our daughter loved it in there and I was slightly worried as she isn't at nursery so not used to that kind of environment but they made biscuits and played so it was all good, while we chilled out in the Vista!

We both had a massage and all went in the pool - the treatments do need to be booked well in advance as there were no more hour appointments left when I called a couple of weeks beforehand. The pool is good although quite small so might get quite busy when the hotel is full.

The children's meals from 5-6 is a really good idea and worked well for us, and we also used the baby listening service but as it is just audio, we did use a video monitor app on the phone/ipad and without this I might have been a bit anxious. The only thing that let the hotel down for us was the meals, a couple of them were so salty I couldn't eat them, but others were really nice, and the breakfasts and children's meals in particular were very good.

Overall we had a great time and a properly relaxing holiday, which can be hard to do with young children. We will definitely come back here and will probably try other hotels in the chain if they are all as good.

Room Tip: It's got to be a sea view room!

Thank you for you lovely review, it was great to learn how well the hotel worked for you and specially your daughter who had her first experience of a crèche environment with our Den Team. I noted your comments concerning salt levels in some dishes. Whilst we do not add any salt to children's food we do try to take a measured approach to seasoning adult food and I am sorry if there was too much for liking. Please do mention this next time you come to stay and we can endeavour to reduce this element of seasoning where possible. With best wishes and thanks from Yvonne and the team at Polurrian.

My husband and I stayed at the Polurrian Hotel while enjoying a few days of nostalgia visiting areas of Cornwall we used to live many years ago. In those days there were many formal functions at the Polurrian- DJ., long dresses etc!
Now there has been a total revamp, and it looks wonderful. The rooms are fresh and comfortable and the sea views quite incomparable- a beautiful setting and really beautifully furnished and fitted. Our room had a spacious bathroom overlooking the cliffs, and the very comfortable bed gave us a good night's sleep. We dined in the restaurant, and the food was beautifully presented and very good indeed- I had quail and chocolate torte, both quite delicious and of a very high standard.
One of the special things we noted was in every case the staff were unfailingly pleasant helpful and friendly; prepared to chat if we wished, but not pushy, very attentive and also extremely knowledgeable about the menu, the history of the hotel etc- outstanding staff.
Only one reservation and for us means we would not return, sadly.
There is no bar here- one of our favourite things on holiday is to meet other people, have a chat and a drink before dinner, maybe make new friends sometimes, but although of course you can have a drink and watch the sunset, that essential focal point is missing and I do think it affects the atmosphere of the hotel, making it rather impersonal because there is no focal point.
Only our opinion, and everything else superb, but very strange in a hotel of this quality.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view if you can get it- well worth the extra this is a global quality view!

Thank you for revisiting Polurrian and for posting such a lovely review. It was great to know that you enjoyed so many aspects of the "New Polurrian" minus the long dresses, which must have been fun ! I note your comments concerning the absence of a "Bar" and can appreciate your thoughts on this. There was a conscious decision to remove things including the bar and reception counter when the hotel was re-furbished. This was to give more of a feeling of being in some ones home as opposed to a hotel. I know you miss the bar and do hope you will call in to see us again even if only to say hello and enjoy the view. With my thanks and very best wishes, Yvonne

This is a delightful hotel with the most helpful staff. Our room had a lovely view and we spent a peaceful day walking the cliff path. The Vista Lounge is vey special and the service for drinks and food exceptional. The only disappointment was the temperature of the food at dinner and breakfast. I expect that this was down to the service rather than the cook, who was outstanding.

Room Tip: Request a sea view.

We spent a glorious 5 day break at the Polurrian Bay hotel. Welcome was extremely friendly and very laid back, our room was ready so we checked in 2 hours earlier than expected which was great. Hotel was lovely and clean and the Vista view was just breathtaking. Our room was great and catered very well for us and our Labrador, the surrounding area, gardens etc were lovely too. Only a minor comment but there were two border collies running around off the lead that had a tendency to bother other dogs and also I wouldn't have thought it should be allowed bearing in mind lots of young children running around who may not like dogs, we kept our dog on a lead at all times. Rooms were serviced everyday. Food was delicious. One minor gripe was that service was very good but a tad slow at times, and one evening my meal was kind of thrown down in front of me with dinner almost ending up on the tablecloth. It seemed that the guys serving needed someone to oversee what they were doing and possibly someone to take control a little more. Saying that the food was delicious and the best out of the other hotels, Ickworth and Woolley grange that we have stayed in.

All in all a great holiday that ticked all the boxes for us and our young children.

Thank you for posting a review following your Easter visit to Polurrian. It's great you know you enjoyed your visit. Thank you also for your feedback on a few areas. It proves to be very useful and helps with our training focus. Interestingly we do ask all our guest with dogs to keep them on a lead when in the hotel as not everyone, specially younger children are used to being close to our four legged friends. Having taken you comments on board we will highlight this in the new seasons welcome letter addressed to our Doggy Guests and their Two-Legged Friends ! Thank you for staying with us and I do hope that we will see you back at Polurrian or at one of our other Luxury Family Hotel properties very soon. With warm regards from Yvonne and the Team.

Wonderful hotel with excellent children's activities. The breakfast was amazing as was the quality of the food in general, although sometimes service was a little slow. Bedrooms were very comfortable and clean. The view from the Vista Lounge was breathtaking and a great place to chill out, which we did for most of the day. Hopefully will be back! Thanks to all the staff for an unforgettable stay.
