“Worst Meal of our Holiday”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

We had been to the Wheelhouse in previous years and it used to be good. We visited on Sunday 7th. July and this time again we ordered Cod & Chips and what was served up was probably the worst we have ever eaten. I would suspect that the Fish was a type of preformed material ... a sort of flat mushy substance that had been fried into a rounded pre-determined shape,, with Chips quality to match. Horrible. Considering that Mevagissey is a Fishing Port with Fresh Fish available daily one would have hoped that they would be serving the Finest. They charged £8.95 each for rubbish. Its also a sticky type of seating, varnish that sticks to your skin. From the inside it has beautiful views looking out across, such a wasted opportunity. Will never eat there again.

had dinner here and recommend booking a table. In the main restaurant there are only two tables with views over the working harbour. Its a great place to wind down after an afternoon walking around the old fishing village.Be prepared to park some distance away, this is a very old village location with narrow street and uneven pavements so more for the reasonably fit among us.
Its a waterside location with a working fish distributorship nearby so if you aren't keen on fish or the smell of the sea maybe not for you. However ,I love it and was fascinated to see the small boats being unloaded and the vans arriving to take the goods to the following mornings markets .
The staff were really friendly and helpful ,the meal was good value and extremely nice.
In high season booking is absolutely essential.

This was a little trip to Cornwall to visit the Lost Gardens of Heligan.

The Wheelhouse is a little gem but do not expect the Ritz but it is in a fantastic position overlooking a little working fishing quay.
In the morning the breakfast is huge and all the fishermen come in to have theirs.

We had the best fish and chips ever in the evening.

The room was clean but very cramped but it looked over the harbour with its wonderful view.

If you are not looking for fancy hotels but a real flavour of the place then this is it.

Very friendly staff.

Room Tip: Don't expect the Ritz and you will be delighted.

The only thing for this place is the beautiful location .. The tables and Floors were grubby the fish platter was a deep fried nightmare which was such a shame ! Someone needs to take this place in hand and make it an all round beautiful place to visit rather than the last option available ...

Whilst we did have a family holiday in Mevagissey at least 30 years ago,we had never visited The Wheelhouse, and on a nostalgia tour whilst back in UK for 5 weeks to celebrate our Golden wedding anniversary (we live in Kefalonia,Greece) we had an overnight stay and a wonderful breakfast. Our room was adequate for our needs, and the view from the window seat in our bedroom was magical.
Sitting outside on the Wharf at the restaurant of the Wheelhouse and watching the comings and goings whilst enjoying the sunshine and a glass of Merlot was perfection .

We went in with a friend for afternoon tea and cakes. They looked ok in their glass display case so we sat at a table in a window and ordered some. The tea was quite expensive, but tasted like the cheapest they could find and the cakes were also quite expensive and very dry, probably some days old. We won't be using the Wheelhouse again.

Room Tip: We only went for tea and cakes, didn't look at the rooms.

what a really great find I'm 6' 2" and solidly built but if you forgive the room size which is only for changing and sleeping then you'll love the views straight into the fishing harbour. The room was clean tidy and very acceptable as the view is everything, the staff where exceptional a real stand out group of youngsters that were really genuinely good. We booked into the restaurant and oh my god we have never eaten fish as fresh it was literally walked around the harbour wall by the hotelier who has a licence in trade fish.

Room Tip: in the season remember this is a proper fishing village and can be a mare to park but we want to mov...
