“good food, very stylish, lacks ambiance”
Reviewed August 8, 2010

Popped in to the scarlet for lunch when on hols in the area, good food despite nobody in the hotel receiving guests either in the hotel or the restaurant with guests wandering around being ignored. Amazing views this hotel has a fantastic position the outside pool is incredible. Lots of lovely places to sit and admire the view. Stunning design and decor but lacking in any local ambiance or character which is a real shame being in such a great location that the hotel feels like its been plonked from london on a cliff top. At fifteen they manage to bring some local vibe and atmosphere into the restaurant. Not sure I would want to stay there but would go for lunch again.

We didn't stay over night, just used the spa facilities for the day. The hotel is lovely, very clean and fresh with some lovely furnishing and touches. We arrived to use the spa facilities for the day and after a fabulous lunch over looking the bay had a head massage and then a sea weed hot tub outside with the fabulous view. I can highly recommend the hotel; the facilities were excellent and there was a realy high quality boutique feel about the place. The staff were excellent, really friendly and helpful.

My boyfriend and I just got back from a 2 night stay at The Scarlet Hotel. It is an absolutely stunning hotel with great attention given to detail and design. The indoor pool is gorgeous as is the natural pool outside (too cold to venture in for us). The scenery is breathtaking and all rooms face the beach. For £15 you can sit outside in one of the two hot tubs for half an hour, perched high above the beach- amazing! However, the service is poor, When you arrive, there is no reception as such. This means you end up loiterng around the lobby waiting for someone to realise you've arrived (with a helpful little sign, saying "we know you are here, please be patient" or words to that effect). This is a little awkward and frustrating. The staff are all lovely but some are very junior and inexperienced- unable to advise on the wine for example, probably themselves not old enough to drink. Secondly, this hotel is seriously pricey! It's £270 for one night in the cheapest room. Dinner is a set menu ( nice but limited, an a la carte menu would be nice as often you dont want a full 3 courses) at £40 per head and two alcoholic drinks at the bar will set you back £15. Taxi's also are extremely expensive so you need to bear this in mind. Thirdly, you need to book EVERYTHING in advance- dinner, the spa etc. Otherwise you'll be lucky if you get a slot. We had to wait until 9pm to eat which was later than we would have liked, the service is slow, so we weren't finished for a good couple of hours, Over all it was a lovely experience and one of the first hotels of its kind. Just be prepared to spend a lot!

This hotel has a special and beautiful location
the rooms are large and benefit from wall to wall views of the bay
and hills surrounding it.
The hotel is modern and nicely decorated but lacks wi fi in the rooms.
The staff is very young and could benefit from more training.
The spa hours are ridiculous, and just as you come back from a long
day trip in this beautiful part of the world and need some relaxing
treatment - the spa closes!
The baths outside are a very nice idea but hard to get.
The food served in the restaurant is above average but the service is
a little too slow.
All in all I would definitely come back!!

My husband & I have just returned from a fantastic belated honeymoon at The Scarlet. The location of the hotel is fantastic - the website pics are fab but don't really do it justice. I'd heartily recommend the hotel to anyone wanting to pamper themselves for a few days.... Beautiful food, friendly staff, and a glorious spa. If you're a 5 star regular, the only minor gripes to be aware of are ....1. When the bar is busy before dinner, the service can be painfully slow so make sure you go early if you want to make sure you'll have time for a relaxed drink in the bar before your meal. 2. Service at dinner was a little unpredictable (although always very friendly) i.e. long waits to have plates cleared at times & ditto between courses. The views, excellent home made bread, & relaxed feel of the place almost compensate, but the delays were just too long at times. 3. If you like to be cool in the evenings, the lack of air conditioning means you'll need to make sure you book a room where you can open the balcony doors at night without compromising your security.
The highlights for us were the spa - make sure you book a treatment; seaweed hot tub; pools; views; beach, and general air of relaxation. If I wasn't expecting we'd be going back asap.

My husband brought me a massage and use of the spa at the Sacrlet Hotel as a birthday present. I have been to a few spa's in my time, and i would have to say this is the best spa experience i have had.
The Spa is situated in the bottom of the hotel, which in turn is built in to the edge of a cliff. My massage was fantastic with lovely essential oils buring,it was soooo relaxing. After the massage i was taken in to a dark room with tiny lights in the celing. In the room there were 4 bag/pods hanging down, i was asked to choose one and to climb in and close my eyes. They then put a blanket on me and said they would return in 20 mins. I was lucky that i was the only other person in the room so it was a truly relaxing experience.
When they returned they showed to the spa facilities, which consisted of a lovely internal pool, steam room, outdoor pool that was like a rock pool with reeds in it to filter the water and an amazing hot tub that was fulled by logs!!
I was lucky enough to of pre booked the hot tub. The hot tub is situated outside and on the edge of the cliff with view over Mawgan Porth beach and to the sea. It was an amzing experience sitting there in the peace and quiet listening to the sea and watching people on the beach down below.
I recommend this to anyone who wants a unique relaxing spa break

We stayed in this Hotel for my husbands birthday and it was THE best hotel i have ever stayed in!!! The location is fab with the most stunning views of the sea. We had a just right room that had the best sea views, when the tide was in it felt as if you were on a cruise as you could lay in bed and only see the sea!!

The Spa was very good and we enjoyed the hot tub looking out to sea.

The Food was very good and they were happy to make me a different starter to the options on the menu, but the service in the restaurant was very poor and considering there seemed to be more steff than guests i am not sure why!!
The breakfast was served to us in our room and it was amazing!!

The tea and coffee is served fresh where ever you are in the hotel and is included in the price!! very nice!!

Hotel dog is lovely to take for a walk!! Great fun on the beach!!!

This hotel was the perfect romantic break and we left feeling very relaxed and re-charged!!
