On arrival I was a bit nervous whether it would live up to expectations as pricy however it did. It is stylish but informal. The setting and views are outstanding. The spa mini journey was also superb. The food very high quality and the staff were all fab. We run training courses on customer service and this was first class. I will definately go back and have already recommended to friends.

Room Tip: We had a room where you could walk down onto the beach which was great. Beautiful view of sunset.

Spent a long weekend at the Scarlet. The place is very beautiful decorated with fun wall art, sculpture and very cosy. It has feel good factor as people were all friendly, attentive, yet not in your face. The hot bath tub overlooking the sea during sun set was magical. The swimming pool although indoor, was fitted with many gadgets and fun. The toiletries were sustainably sourced from local business. The common area was decorated beautifully with art work from local talented artists. It is located quite a way from everything so to explore Padstowe, Rick Stein's restaurants, either you must have your own car or the taxi fare could be hefty when it all add up. All in all a true relaxing experience. Lovely stay - thank you. :-)

Earlier this week it was our fifth time staying at this lovely hotel. We were greeted by a lovely gentleman - we are still to meet a member of staff who doesn't want to do everything they can to make our stay more comfortable - and taken to our usual generous room. The hotel had very kindly written me a birthday card which made the trip even more special. For the first time we had a larger meal for dinner instead of just some snacks and the food was delicious. I had pasta of the day - carbonara to die for - and my partner had a steak sandwich, which was equally tasty. The hotel are particularly good at doing anything they can at your request and making it seem very easy and not a chore if you ask for something specific. Breakfast was also thoroughly delcious and is always something we look forward to when visiting again. The main point to raise about this hotel is the staff attitude. It makes such a difference going to such a friendly and welcoming place and they aren't at all intrusive but always say hello when you pass in the building. Lovely hot chocolate with marshmallows and chocolate shavings too :) Can't wait to book our next trip - thank you Scarlet!

My other half and I spent 3 nights at the Scarlet as a 40th birthday treat. We booked quite last minute as we'd been considering going abroad but I'm so glad we didn't - this was as close to a perfect break as we could ever have hoped for.

We arrived quite early, before 11am, after flying into Newquay from London and it was less than 10 minutes in a cab to the hotel. We were met immediately in the lobby and given a tour of the whole building, perfect for getting our bearings. The whole vibe of relaxation, not just from the helpful staff, but in the decor and lighting in all the public rooms means you can't help but feel instantly at home.

As we were early our room wasn't quite ready so we were given some tea (which is on the house and delivered to any room in the hotel at any time during your stay) and sat and enjoyed the view of the stunning beach at Mawgan Porth. Within 10 minutes our room (No. 13 in the 'just right' category) was available and we were taken down there and shown how everything works. The room itself was perfectly sized, plenty of space for luggage, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, 2 huge mirrors, floor to ceiling glass with a sliding door out onto a balcony overlooking the little courtyard in the centre of the hotel and out over to the sea beyond. Very private and not over-looked at all. The open-plan bathroom was lovely, but there is a frosted glass door to the toilet and shower to give a bit of privacy for those who don't like to see everything their partner does...!

We slept very well every night - the sound-proofing is excellent so you hear nothing from outside and very little from the rooms above and next door. The only time we heard others was when room service delivered something to the room across the hall.

The spa is definitely worth every penny. The staff who run it are a credit to the hotel, nothing was too much trouble, and the therapists who do the treatments are so lovely, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about what they do. We booked one of the outdoor hot-tubs for the evening of my birthday and sat out there sipping champagne cocktails as the sun set. Blissful. It was so nice that we did it again on our last afternoon - though this time in a howling gale and rainstorm but it was still just as good! Thanks must go to Leon for braving the elements to bring us drinks!
We also did one of the 4 hour therapeutic journeys for couples which involved a rhassoul in a private steam room, followed by meditation and full body massages before being left in a bath sipping champagne. I defy anyone to not enjoy that! It was absolutely awesome, like an out of body experience - our therapists Charmaine and Rachel truly must have magic fingers as I have never felt so relaxed after a massage - ever. Just perfect.

The food in the restaurant was also top notch - everything we ate was prepared with obvious care and flavours combined to create some really special dishes. Having a separate menu for vegetarians was ideal too as my partner doesn't eat meat. We didn't even need to ask for it as a note about our dietary requirements had been made when we booked so there was never any problems. The same amount of care had gone into the vegetarian options too - everything was cleverly put together and tasted delicious, none of this 'oh just chuck some roasted peppers on a plate and melt some cheese on it' attitude of some other hotels.

It's really hard to find fault in anything about our experience of the Scarlet. If I had to nit-pick though then they could do with a few more signs round the place to point you in the direction of the path to the beach for example as we got lost on our first day and had to ask!

I really can't recommend this place highly enough - the management should be very proud of what they've created, and of the staff they have running the place as it really was as close to perfection as I've experienced at a hotel in the UK. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: We were more than happy with our 'just right' room - number 13. It doesn't have the unob...

Calm, patient and caring staff who seem genuinely interested and love their jobs! Agree with all the positive previous reviews and would definately recommend.

Would just like to add that we were extremely impressed with staff communication and response. We had a few issues on our first day which were picked by staff who did their utmost to remedy and our second day proved magical! We awoke to bright sun / early swim / wonderful breakfast / walk on the beach / long-journey of re-discovery in spa (a must!) and a delicious relaxed dinner in the cosy bar. Such a turnaround and feeling of well-being - amazing!

Only negative is the restaurant in the winter evening. The wonderful glass window by day turns into a black wall of reflection and together with the cold lighting we found it made for a bleak and unwelcoming atmosphere. Eat in the bar - more fun and cosy!

Room Tip: Just Right rooms good as not over-looked, front row to beach so great view, balcony and close to spa...

We'll me and husband have just returned from the scarlet what a lovely time we had it was for a belated birthday and some alone time without the children.

Good points:
The view was sooooo amazing what a beautiful bay we had a indulgence room with a balcony
The pool indoor was lovely with glass windows looking out onto the bay and steam room great
Outdoor pool was filtered with reeds wow it was so beautiful I did try and get in but half a leg later I was back out it was a little cold !!
Spa treatment was amazing I had a part body massage it was in a small dark relaxing room with relaxing music once you had treatment you are put into a small hanging pod with a warm blanket and a cool glass of water with more chilled out music
The staff are brilliant they can't do enough for you
The food in the hotel was spot on and I have a nut allergy but all my food was cooked separate so there was no cross contamination
The room big and airy
The hotel in General was beautiful the resturant and bar very modern and the art work around the hotel was great

Bad points:

The toilet door !!!! Or should I say lack of it. It is a toilet and wet room in one with a tiny frosted glass door with gaps at the top and bottom of the door and no lock but you don't need one as there is no point as you can hear and see everything that is going on in there. Without going into to much crude detail the bathroom is private time and there is no privacy in there I had to send my husband out to the balcony on a few occasions as I did not feel it was appropriate that he could hear everything going on in the ladies room.

And the price of the room I feel was a little steep we have stayed in hotel rooms more expensive in London and we got alot more for our money are stay was £720 for two nights with breakfast I think for prices like it should include a spa treatment or a hot tub treatment.

Others than that what a great place sort the toilet door and shave a little of the price and this hotel would be the best around by far.

Thanks to all staff that we met at the hotel and we will be back soon !xxxxxx

Room Tip: Pay for the lower rate standard room you get the same view
