“A tranquil haven in beautiful surroundings”

We'd never been to the lizard peninsular and we went to the henhouse because of the dog friendly facilities, oh yes and the breakfast menu :-) We weren't disappointed!

Sandy and Gary have created a little haven which they are kind enough to share with people like us who need to escape for a while. Ruby and Saffy settled in straight away and fell for gorgeous Morgan hook line and sinker - he's so handsome and very laid back!!

Accommodation was spacious, spotless and comfortable. Very handy having use of utility room for dog food prep and washing doggy bowls, drying wet towels and boots and handy hose if necessary.

The fantastic breakfasts set you up for the day, served with some friendly banter and lots of information on walks, places to visit, local arts & crafts, places to eat and dog friendly beaches. We had the best fish pie at the Ship Inn at Porthleven, Ice Cream from Roskillys and you must try the meringues from the cafe by the lighthouse at lizard point - ask Sandy!!!!!

Beautiful scenic walks, good food, a comfortable bed and new friends. We had a fantastic time!
Thank you Sandy & Gary & Morgan. Hope to see you next year. Pam & Allan & Ruby & Saffy Fisher, Forfar, Scotland

Our abiding memory of our stay at the Henhouse is the sense of being at home in this tranquil hidden corner of Cornwall. Sandy & Gary have such an easy-going way with them it was like visiting friends in the country. After a long journey, a welcome cup of tea & a homemade muffin followed by a soak in a fragrant bath, a lovely fish supper at the local pub & a good night's sleep in a comfy bed. The breakfast table was laid-out immaculately with local pottery & local produce was cooked-up for us in tasty FEB. On returning from our walk we relaxed in the wild flower meadow renowned for it's healing properties. The next morning at 8 we joined Gary for a complimentary Tai Chi class. \it's great place for walkers & for those who want to sit & contemplate their existance. We will return.

We stayed at the Hen House for a week in August with our dog, who was made very welcome and enjoyed having the run of the meadow! The room we stayed in was lovely - spacious, tastefully decorated, and light and airy with two large skylights, and a large and comfortable bed (the only slight criticism being that the pillows were a bit too hard for our tastes!)

The breakfasts were phenomenal, with cereal or home-made fruit compote and yogurt to start, followed by a fabulous full English (the sauted herby potatoes were our favourite thing!), and then homemade toast and jam. Gary and Sandy were fantastic, providing us with recommendations for the best places to go each morning (and the recommendations were spot on - particularly the one for the best cream tea!).

The B&B is set in a tiny peaceful hamlet, it is like stepping back in time! It is a short drive (or pleasant walk across the fields) to the nearest bigger village with a shop and couple of pubs, and there are loads of lovely places to visit in the Lizard - it is much quieter and more peaceful than other areas of Cornwall, and most getting to most places involves driving along tiny single track roads, but you hardly ever meet anyone coming the other way! Great if you really want to relax and get away from it!

Just returned from a wonderful relaxing break at the Hen House. It is a great place to stay if you have a dog ( or dogs in our case) as your pets are made to feel as welcome as you are. The accomodation is superb, the breakfasts are to die for and Sandy and Gary are SO friendly, knowlegable and welcoming.

Their green policy is much to be admired and I can only highly recommend that you stay there.

The service was excellent. The room comfortable and spacious. I had the best weeks sleep I think I've ever had!!!!! The bed was sooooo comfortable. Breakfast was to die for with so much choice. The location was superb for exploring Cornwall. Will definitily go back again.

I loved the homely, friendly atmosphere and their beautiful dog Morgan who proved to be a good companion for my dog Leo who is the same adorable breed.

I can't say what I liked the least cos I loved it all. Try sitting out late evening by the cosy chimenea and exchanging local ghost stories!!!!!!!! Fabulous!!!!!!!!

Where do I start!? Lovely location, fantastic room (can't remember the name of the room but it was the largest one - they only have two, and a self catering barn), stylish and very clean bathroom, AMAZING breakfasts, very friendly and knowlegable owners, lovely dog!

It was nice to get away and we felt a real sense of peace and rest and romance. Ask Sandy and Gary anything and if they don't have the answer, they will find out for you! They lent us maps, can make restaurant reservations and let you know where to go and what to do. They can even give you advice about the weather which is handy if you're walking or spending a lot of time outdoors.

Incidentally don't be fooled by the slow pace of life, the area's best restaurants get booked up super quick by locals and tourists alike so think ahead and either book yourself or ask Gary or Sandy.

Highly recommended and if 'green' tourism matters to you (and my personal opinion is that is should matter to us all) they have won awards for being a green business and part of the sustainable tourism network.

Final point, if you do have pets, the Hen House is perfect for you with lots of walks and facilities including a drying room and somewhere to hose down the dog!

Set deep in the Cornish countryside on the Lizard Peninsula the Hen House is a great place to get away from city life. The owners Sandy and Gary and their dog, will give you a warm welcome and provide you with lots of local information. The breakfasts are fantastic and huge. Local suppliers are used and Sandy bakes the bread and makes many of the preserves. We stayed in the Puno room, which has a great comfortable bed and plenty of space. I particularly liked the arrangements of fresh wild flowers that were placed in the rooms. There's lots of outdoor space, a seating area that you can hang out in and a big meadow round the back of the house. The area is very remote, we wouldn't have found the B&B without satnav although Sandy and Gary did give very detailed directions. The Hen House is a lovely place to stay and the owners will do everything possible to make sure you enjoy your visit.
