Just spent a wonderful two days at the Hen House. As usual Gary and Sandy make you very welcome and nothing is too much. Greeted with a lovely cup of tea and home made cake and given help to find a nice walk for us and the dogs. Would recommend the Hen House to anyone who wants to be looked after and likes the peace and quiet of this lovely part of Cornwall.

We have just returned from the most fantastic three night stay at the Hen House. I can only s reiterate what other guestslhave said in their reviews. Sandy and Gary are the most thoughtful, considerate hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them. Some examples of this: tea and cakes on arrival; lending us an OS map of the area and taking the time to explain everything there is to see and do; regular replenishment of the milk jug for teas/coffee; the stopping to talk to us whenthey clearly had things to do; the free tai-chi classes etc.
The surroundings are tranquil and beautiful and the rooms spacious, comfortable and well equipped. The breakfasst is delightful, copious and of the best quality (I loved the fresh fish oy lanesption).
Gary and Sandy have clearly worked very hard to get where they are and full marks to them for their emphasis on eco-frienliness and sustainability. They have put so much thought into the whole operation (hoses for washing down dogs, poop scoops, the central communal lawn area, torches for navigating dark country lanes etc). We had a great time and would not hesitate to recommend the Hen House to anyone.

This was our second time at the Hen House and, yet again, we were warmly welcomed by Sandy and Gary who have opened their home and gardens in this beautiful corner of Cornwall. We took advantage of their new self catering room and one of their B&B rooms and weren't disappointed. The house is down windy Cornish lanes which affords much tranquility but only short drives (or walks if you feel ambitious!) down to the cove at Porthallow or a little further into either Newtown St Martin or St ,Keverne, bring you bak to village life.
Everything is provided for you that you would need including a drying room and hose for dogs if needed and having the meadow on hand is great too. 2 of our party took up the generous offer of Tai Chi which was a good way to relax into the holiday.
The weather wasn't hugely kind to us but our hosts should rename themselves the Cornish Oracle! They had endless, great suggestions for walks and days out and even a wet weather list, which was varied and catered for most tastes.
The breakfast should be the stuff of legend and, as others have mentioned, the friendly chatter makes you feel very welcome and a real home from home. Having taken advantage of the cooked breakfast, compotes, toast and cereal for 7 days solid, we are all rather feeling it on our waistbands!!
If you are thinking about taking dogs, this really is a great little place because of the security and meadow particularly but, as dog owners themselves, Sandy and Gary are in the know for pubs and places to visit which are dog friendly, easing any worries you may have.
We will definitely return and recommend anyone else there as well without hesitation.

The Hen House is located deep in the Cornish countryside but Sandy and Gary provide detailed instructions to help you locate them. We were welcomed warmly with tea and home made cake and thereafter provided each day with fresh milk for our tea/coffee. We like the fact that each of the rooms had a small garden with seating. Rooms are Puno (B&B), the Barns (self catering) and the third room which can be either.
Sandy and Gary go out of their way to provide help and advice even providing a large scale OS map for their guests. They are very knowledgeable about the local area and their recommendations for restaurants, tea rooms were always excellent. If you like fish, try the Blue Haze on the harbour side at Porthleven.
Our room with bathroom, Puno, was large and well furnished and even had a fridge which was useful as we were there in a heatwave.
We tried each of the three breakfasts on offer and all were extremely good.
One small point for people with mobility problems. To reach the breakfast room involved six steps on one side of the building or a slope and five shallow steps on the other.
Our grandson visited us briefly and enjoyed playing with Morgan, the resident dog, before being taken by Sandy to feed the ducks and chickens.
Sandy and Gary even gave my husband a birthday card - very thoughtful.
Do visit if you want tranquility with the crowing cocks and birdsong the only sounds, good food and conversation.

Following a week's rather wet holiday on the Isles of Scilly, we had two nights at the Hen House on our way home, after a rather traumatic boat trip back to the mainland. What a wonderful place the Hen House is to help us forget that journey. Although Sandy and Gary were out for the evening (we were delayed because of the late return of the boat) they had left us delicious muffins to have with a hot cup of tea. We retired to bed in our lovely spacious room (Puno) for a wonderful night's sleep. Breakfast next morning was an experience not to be missed - fruit compote, followed by a choice of Cornish haddock, continental platter or full English with a choice of eggs cooked however we liked them. The eggs, of course, came from Gary and Sandy's own hens.

Gary and Sandy, with their friendly chatter at breakfast, made us feel most welcome and we left with specific directions to an excellent plant nursery and to the best pasties in Cornwall, not to mention some very useful culinary tips!

The Hen House is wonderfully comfortable, the food is delicious and Sandy and Gary are the most welcoming hosts that one could hope to meet.

We give The Hen House the highest recommendation and can't wait to return ourselves with our two small dogs. Gary and Sandy had thought of everything that we could possibly need in our lovely room Puno and were themselves most welcoming, enthusiastic and full of suggestions for wonderful places to visit and the best walks. The breakfasts were the best we have ever had - all home made and locally sourced. 3 Tai Chi taster lessons got me wanting more and I also had some Reiki therapy. We loved the peaceful wildflower meadow and the amazing birdsong everywhere. Our expectations were high after studying their website and reading the reviews, but our experience was even better than we could possibly have imagined. Penny and David P

Having stayed at the Hen House 3 years ago we were so looking forward to our second stay and it didn't disappoint! We stayed in Puno, a beautiful double room with huge shower room, decorated simply but elegantly with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. Sandy & Gary are two of the nicest people you could wish to know and go out of their way to make your stay perfect, without being intrusive. They are both very knowledgeable of the area and will give you advise should you require it. The breakfasts are delicious with plenty of choice, home baked bread, homemade jams, the freshest eggs (hen and duck) you could ever hope to taste and local produce used. The setting of the Hen House is perfect too, the meadow is a lovely place to take a short stroll (Oscar our Golden Retriever loves it there), meet the hens and just relax. Even the ducks chat to you! Definitely a place to return to.
