This is such a lovely place and i would recommend it highly! The rooms are of a very high standard and beautifully furnished. We had a bit off a mix up when we first arrived due to an error with the booking but Simon and Cristie were very accommodating and arranged us another room and cut half of our cost of the room for the night that we very much appreciated! The staff are all very lovely and always have a smile on their face which is really welcoming. They'll do anything to help you. Breakfast was to die for with a nice choice of fruit, cereal and a cooked breakfast of your choice. good amenities in Lostwithiel and a nice walk in the evening just to look around. Overall a perfect place to stay in a really quaint area and Simon and Cristie will make wonderful managers.

We went here for our first year anniversary. It is a good value and dog friendly pub. The steak was from the local butchers and was very tasty. The chicken breast rissotto was very succulent. Friendly staff and we enjoyed a great spot under the big willow tree in the sun. We are going back to try roast dinner on Sunday.

The royal oak promotes 'dogs welcome' what they mean is the dogs are as welcome as their owners! The Housekeeper keeps the well furnished rooms to a really high standard. We stayed in room 5 - which was perfectly functionable, furnishings were appropriate and in keeping with the building. Breakfast options were good (but we always had full English!). Dinner menu was slightly narrow for my personal tastes but changed daily so we always looked forward to seeing the next edition. Good wine list. Staff and locals were really friendly - we had a really relaxing break - some really lovely places to visit locally with the dog including the dogs beach at Par, Lanhydrock estate walks etc.We couldn't have asked for more!

Room Tip: Room 5 is over the main door but this did not cause us any problems - one flight of stairs to all ro...

The Royal Oak was taken over last year and hence an earlier critical review should be ignored. The restaurant menu is varied and the food is very good. That there has clearly been much improvement suggests that past poor reviews that reflect a previous underperforming management should be removed as they are misleading.

Thank you for taking the time to review us on trip advisor and for your positive comments. We took over the Royal Oak last year and have worked hard to both refurbish the whole building and restore the reputation of this popular venue - thanks for letting us know that we are getting there!

Stayed for two nights in May 2012. We had two rooms which were both very nice, although the bed in room 6 did creak rather alot!. Both rooms were clean and of a reasonable size. The hotel staff could not have been nicer and and more helpful. We had the veggie breakfast which was large and well cooked. We also had an evening meal which included two veggie choices which is quite rare. Both measl were excellent and I would highly recommend a visit to eat even if you are not staying in the hotel. Didn't have my dogs with me on this trip but the hotel was very accomodating for dog owners and their own puppy Ernie was to die for! Plenty of room to park and despite being a pub we were not disturbed by any noise from the bar or outside terrace. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you for posting such a positive review on trip advisor we will be sure to pass your comments on to our team. thanks for telling us about the squeaky bed - we have attacked it with a spanner which seems to have done the trick!
Our head chef Christie specialises in serving really good, locally sourced food with a very individual style - having our own car park for guests is a real bonus in Lostwithiel.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.

I stayed here for one night with my boyfriend. The staff were welcoming & helpful, & the room was very comfortable! Overall, we had a really good stay & they do a great fried breakfast which is included in the price :) I wish we'd been able to eat dinner there in the evening, as the menu looked really good. I'd definitely stay here again.

Spent one night, and was pleasantly surprised. Our twin room was nicely decorated, clean and functional for our night stay. (The only thing we had to get used to was the sloping floors). Yes our room was over the bar, and.. Yes it was Saturday night... But either we were very tired, or their wasn't enough noise to keep us awake. The only disappointment was the breakfast next morning. The full English breakfast was very nice, but there was no fresh fruit, or yoghurt, and just the choice of cornflakes or allbran for cereal. Overall though were very pleased with the value for money.
