Tredethick Farm Cottages
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed April 5, 2012

After reading some of the reviews for Tredethick, I just had to add to them.
I have never stayed in any of the cottages as I am a local, but I do use the swimming pool facilities. (And we're not "unfriendly")!!!
I thought the remark about bed bugs was cruel and unnecessary. We get biting insects during the summer months in Cornwall, due to the surrounding countryside and farm stock animals, but I know Tim well, and I also know how much care goes into cleanliness and detail, and I know many people return to this beautiful place year after year, which in itself is proof of it's popularity and success.
Tredithick is a working farm, but every care is taken to ensure the safety and enjoyment of it's guests, and I know from talking to those guests that they enjoy their stay, and cannot wait to return!!

We stayed in the Guildhouse which is at the end of the drive, next to the main road from Lostwithiel to Lerryn, but don't let that put you off, the cars were not an issue there were so few, especially at night. Lovely house, with conservatory for pram and wellies. We were the only first-time family of all the cottages, so that tells you something!
Animal feeding such a hit, our 2 1/2 year old was nervous at first of the squealing pigs and ran from the barn but by the last day was scratching their backs, not to mention trying to kiss the goats.
Loads to do locally, and with the pool & soft play the weather didn't matter. he was worn out by bed time every day, so we could enjoy a glass of wine and a DVD from the selection to borrow, with some quite up to date titles.

The cottage was nicely furnished but not spectacular, but we have stayed in Lerryn in an 'underfloor heating/White company/wet room/everything john lewis' type property, for about the same price - at tredethick, the cottages are perfectly fine and the premium on other accommodation is for the facilities.
In response to the reviewer below: Our shower was an electric Power shower, but still fine for us. The newsletter we just received tells us some showers are being replaced this winter.
The pool block and soft play are strictly no-shoe areas with boot racks outside so we noticed no mud or anything worse in there; everything was kept very clean.

We've not booked to go back yet, simply because we want our daughter to be walking when we do as I think a crawler will be a bit difficult. We will book again though, despite the 8 hour journey!

Update: have booked again and who cares if she's walking!

Stayed 3 nights in Wagonhouse and having just returned home have already booked a return visit. Accommodation is great but the facilities and activities for children (2.5 & 15 months in our case)are outstanding, the animal feeding, pony rides, lovely swimming pool and playbarn , as well as games room for the older children/adults. Location is beautiful as well.We had a great time and farmer Tim and family great hosts. We will recommend to all our friends

Stayed here for four nights in Scantlebury Cottage whilst our Daughter, Partner and Children aged 12 and 4 stayed in the Dairy Cottage for seven nights

A perfect holiday for Mum and Dad to relax whilst so much activity for the Children. Not bad for us Grandparents either as I got to help out with the daily animal feed routine.

Farmer Tim and his staff have worked really hard to make a success of these Farm Cottages

Lovely location in Cornwall so we were able to visit places like Fowey and Mevagissey away from the peak season.

Not a cheap holiday but your really do get the quality that you have paid for.

My children loved this place more than me! They loved the animal feeding, the soft play areas. the pool, the scooters and tractors that the could scoot around in, they loved farmer Tim and farmer jenny, the pony riding, the hot chocolate...
As the adult paying I would have loved a hot tub, mid week cleaning, comfortable pillows(they were flat) and bedding (a 4 tog duvet is not enough.....!!) Would also have liked less cobwebs and spiders!

I would not return but lots of people do....people who pay more than £2.5k for a week here in Summer have got to be seriously rich or seriously mad!!

One word, amazing. Farmer tim has gotten this place so right. He knows exactly what children love and hence what parents will love.

Location: peaceful and scenic. The cottages are very well built and we never heard any babies etc crying at night. Equally lostwithiel is so well placed with so much to do within a 45 minute drive. It is a working farm ( isn't that the point though?), but we were certainly never interrupted or saw the farm machinery operating.

Facilities: second to none, for both kids and grown ups. After animal feeding (a hit with all!), we would head out for a trip in the morning. And return for an afternoon in the soft play and swimming pool. Boys spent an hour a day at least in each place happily. The parents read the newspapers and drank coffee and relaxed!

Standard of place: this place is spotless for a farm! The standards are extremely high both in and outside the cottages. All facilities are spotless and great!

Little touches: homemade scones on arrival, farmer tim knowing all the children's names ( no mean feat given how many children must past through this farm each year), and best of all for the children, a little gift when it is time to go home.

I conclusion, since we have had kids, we have struggled to find a holiday that ticks all the boxes for us. This is the first one that has done so and after a week we were all sad to be heading home. We have already booked 2 return trips for 2012 and cannot wait.

It is a real shame that this place has gotten such a poor write up on here as I can honestly say that a lot of thought and effort has gone into creating such a wonderful haven for parents and kids alike. Come here and you won't regret it, you also won't want to leave!

Room Tip: Granary cottage is lovely as has space to accommodate granny and granddad too!

We stayed at the farm with our children. Although animal feeding was a highlight for them, it was hardly worth the extortionate rates charged to stay in accomodation which frankly was mediocre. The shower was barely a dribble and the bed clothes smelt. We were bitten by bed bugs too! We did not expect luxury but the website makes the farm look as though it is a mecca for children and a luxurious heaven for parents. In fact it is quite dangerous being a working farm with lots of agricultural machinery driving far too quickly about the place. The indoor swimming pool was a nice touch but rented out to the (unfriendly) locals so not exclusively for the guests use.The light in the swimming pool changing room often did not work (and trust me it was needed as if I had attempted to wash my hair in the cottage, I would still be there now!). Again, the play barn is nice for the kids but nothing special and many of the little darlings would trample their manure sodden wellies through the soft play area (hence another need for a decent shower and maybe even some hand wash?!!) Next time, we will save the £2500 and stay at home! We can take them to a petting farm and our little ones will at least get to wash their hands after touching goats and sheep! I thought that farms these days had to insist that children do wash their hands after touching animals? Not so at Tredethick.... not a sink or alcohol rub in sight!!

Room Tip: Take your own soap, it is not provided! And some dry shampoo!
