Although I stayed at nearby Restormel Cottage (which is a short 200m woodland walk away from Restormel Manor) I was still granted access to the indoor pool, sports room and tennis court if I wished. The ruins of Restormel Castle are closeby and definitely worth a look only it was closed during my off-season visit and I had to settle for the view from my bedroom window. The Duchy of Cornwall Nursery and Gift Shop with its extensive range of Annabel Elliot-inspired interior touches is less than a mile up the road and well worth a visit. Lostwithiel is an excellent base to visit Truro, St Michael's Mount, Newquay and Padstow etc.

This is a very belated review! We stayed in 'Trinity', part of the original Manor House, in early May. It is at the far end of the house with countryside views to the front and the river at the rear. It was roomy, comfortable and spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need; a nice touch was the cream tea awaiting us on arrival. The main double bedroom was huge with a very comfortable large bed. Our teenage son slept in the smaller but very charming twin room where he was very happy.

The location is lovely - quiet and peaceful just the sound of the flowing river and the occasional train passing in the distance. There are good walks from your doorstop and the pleasant town of Lostwithiel is just a mile away - where you can stock up. We spend a pleasant morning there wondering around the antique shops and visited the the small museum which is free. I noticed the reviewer above complained about having to pay to visit Restormel Castle situated above Restormel Manor - This is because the castle is managed by English Heritage and the holiday lets belong to the Duchy of Cornwall.

Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad during our stay but we were very warm and cosy inside - very good central heating and an open fire in the sitting room (there is a free log store). The facilities are excellent and include an indoor swimming pool which, as only two cottages in the courtyard were occupied, we had to ourselves. There is also a tennis court and a games room.

Restormel manor is a rather expensive place to stay (especially in the summer) but you get what you pay for. I would return and hopfully enjoy better weather next time.

We stayed in Hext, one of the smaller cottages in the Restormel Manor, back at the start of summer. It was fabulous. Beautifully styled and generous accommodation, with one large master bedroom with ensuite, one twin bedroom with family bathroom, and one open-plan living / dining / kitchen. There has been a lot of attention to detail in these cottages, and they are well equipped with everything that one would need, including appropriate games and books for the children. The cottages are built around a garden courtyard, which was great, as the children were able to run around like maniacs in the evening while the adults enjoyed a pre-dinner drink. The site itself houses a tennis court, a play area for the children, and a beautiful indoor pool (which was a godsend given that the storms during our visit were so ferocious that many roads were closed!). The cottages are within the grounds of Restormel Castle, which is well worth a visit, though we were irritated to be charged admission given that we were staying on site, and this is not made clear on the website for the holiday cottages (or at least we didn't see it). There are many lovely walks around. One of our favourites was up to the Duchy cafe which serves lunch of exceptionally good value (try the smoked haddock chowder and potted mackerel ... two of our favourites!!). They also seem to have the best coffee in the region. Overall, we had a great time despite horrific weather, and would definitely go back to Hext.

We stayed at Dairy House, Restormel Manor for a week in rainy Cornwall. We had high expectations given the website pictures and the cost! but the Dairy House was a real find. The house is beautifully styled and equipped with lovely Linen on soft beds and a main bedroom overlooking the valley. Everything had impeccable taste and even with poor weather we were happy to stay in doors.
There is a great in door heated pool, tennis court and play area for younger children. There is a games room with pool table darts and table tennis which weren't very exciting.
Lostwithiel is the nearest town- charming with real shops including loads of antique shops and cafes, couple of pubs and restaurants.
All in all loved our stay - we will return
