“Lovely little pub with a fantastic view”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Had a lovely evening here. There was a live Celtic folk band on when we visited providing great entertainment all evening.
Menu is small with limited options, no children's menu but they do half portions of all the adult meals, however the food was delicious.
If you have a boat, you can easily visit the pub with the boat and then it's just a 2 min walk up from the pontoon.

“Bit hit and miss”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 17, 2013

Have had lunch twice here after sailing up the Helford from Falmouth. Food has been a bit hit and miss. Portion of mussels very small - what other restaurants would serve as a starter, and some other choices bit suspect. Overall would think to go there for a drink but maybe not to eat. Good points - it is dog friendly throughout, they have jazz Sunday lunchtimes, good seating outside and a view, and it is not packed with tourists - as is the case with the Ferry Boat Inn opposite. The ferry from Helford runs late only on certain nights - you need to check this out. It is quite a drive round.

“Favourite haunt”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

We've been staying at Gillan Cove and a favourite trip for us is by boat around the headland to Helford Creek. There we like to have lunch at the Shipwright's Arms. Great location and view of the river. All the staff are friendly and hard-working and we have not had a single bad experience with food, service, cleanliness etc. Clientele is a good mix of locals and grockles. A bit pricey but the value-for-money equation just about works.

“Mouldy bread!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

We canoed from Durgan to Helford and went to this pub for lunch. I chose a crab sandwich and unfortunately the bread was mouldy and stale. When I told a member of staff they said ok I'll get you another one, as if it were no surprise and it happened all the time! It was a tiny sandwich with a couple of salad leaves and a handful of crisps, so for £9 I felt it was over priced. On the other hand the burgers were great.
