“Wonderful views, interesting food”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

Our family ate here one evening and had a table with superb views over the Helston. It is a delight to watch the boats come and go and watch the people and dogs below.

The food was good overall but the starters of duck pate and asparagus were questionable: the asparagus dish was very strange and seemed to be made up of a variety of sandwich fillings (egg mayonaise?!) I think it is the oddest starter I have ever had and I eat out a lot.

However, the main courses were extremely tasty with beautifully cooked duck and steak and the fruity cous cous was delicious (though the presentation could have been a bit more refined).

Wonderful dessert of apple fritters with apple sorbet. Very well executed.

Service was friendly and efficient.

Not sure we would return for dinner, but would definitely return for a drink and to enjoy the lovely views.

“River Views”
Reviewed July 14, 2013 via mobile

The Shipwrights Arms is a wonderful, relaxing pub on the banks of the river Helford. the food was cooked well and the staff were friendly and nothing was a problem. if you have been walking or boating in the area then this is the place to relax and chill out with a bottle of wine and watch the boats come and go and watch the sun go down, bliss !!!

“Indeed - a little gem!”
Reviewed July 13, 2013

After walking around the beautiful Trebah Gardens on what was officially described as the hottest day of the year, down through the hectic bustling cove of Helford Passage, we caught the ferry back over to the tranquility of Helford and sunk into the peaceful oasis of The Shipwright Arms - delightful! Revived by cooling pints of local draft cider we enjoyed delicious crab salads and wished we could stay for ever!
Recently refurbished in cooling blues and sporting a bright new thatch this tiny old pub has lovely little rooms and terraces that meander down to the pretty creek. A wonderful relaxed setting in the picture-box village of Helford. The owners Vicky and Hairy (not mispelt!) also run the Village Stores and the whole place has a strong community-feel. Definately worth a visit.......

“HARD TO FIND BUT WORTH THE TRIP”
Reviewed July 9, 2013

Needed a drink by the time we had driven miles through the Cornish countryside to find this house.

Had an enjoyable couple hours sampling the Doombar and enjoying the excellent food. Ordered the haloumi salad and the crab sandwich with one lot of chips. Glad we didn't order two lots of chips as one was more than enough for two.

Like the plaque dedicated to the workers who renovated the pub. Nice for them to be recognised. See images.

Good beer, good food and good location. Recommended.

What a find, superb location on the river watching the dogs and kids play. Friendly staff, also to tourists :-) and the best possible crab risotto! This is hospitality, good luck to you all!
