“Hidden gem in a unique location”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

We visited the Shipwrights after its recent total refurbishment and absolutely loved all the beautiful, unique artwork and craftwork covering the walls, its worth a visit just for that alone. A lot of love, and thought has gone into it so it reflects its location perfectly. It is a little thatched pub in a stunning location by the river in the pretty Helford village, which is found at the end of long windy Cornish lanes. This adds to the feeling of a hidden gem in a secret world, far away from the hustle and bustle of the real world.

There is not a huge menu, but the crab sandwich and goats cheese salad we had were delicious. Friendly, chilled, laid back and totally unique, it is a must for any visitors to Cornwall, a place where you can show people why we love Cornwall so much.

“We will return!”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

An amazing transformation and all credit to Hairy and Vicky for all the hard work they have done. Beer, wine and food all excellent, especially the open crab sandwich. We look forward to returning by boat and to Hairy getting the pontoon back in place when the weather eventually improves. Thoroughly recommended.

“Not everyone's taste!”
Reviewed April 7, 2013

Called in for a drink on Easter Monday. The pub was busy which is a good thing of course. It's obvious that a lot of work and money has gone into the refurb but personally I feel it has lost its old charm and the decor is too modern and stylised for the age of the place. The bar area was manic with people trying to pay for food whilst others waited for a drink - needs a better system in place. The food didn't look that great and the owner (Hairy) looked very miserable in his 'Chef's outfit. A smiling face might make a difference!

“Fab makeover”
Reviewed April 3, 2013

We first went here by accident during the annual regatta in August (2010). It is in a lovely spot by the Helford River. When we first went we enjoyed the atmosphere (very loud and friendly) but didn't especially rate the building/environment. We went back, just for a drink, on 2 April 2013, to discover they had just completed an immense refurb and had re-opened only a few days before. We think they are new owners too. The new place is so lovely, a lot of attention has been paid to making it a great place to be. So we ended up staying for dinner too! The food was very nice but we thought they could bump the portions up a bit (more carbs, veg, lentils rather than more meat/fish) and still keep the price the same (£18/main course). Great staff.

“Amazing views and lovely food”
Reviewed April 1, 2013 via mobile

We called in after a lovely walk around Bosahan and St Anthony and was surprised to find they were serving food all day. The refurbished interior looks great and the use of what was the old kitchen as seating area is brilliant as the view down the river is stunning. We had fish (monkfish) and chips, which was really tasty and well presented for a reasonable price. The pudding was lovely too. Staff were really friendly and helpful and clearly feel proud of the hard work that is obvious to see.
