A quiet corner of Cornwall and a relaxing couple of hours. Not too expensive to get in, but many attractions in Cornwall seem to be getting overpriced. Can recommend.

Visited the gardens on 26th of June. Was a lovely sunshine day, but not much to see. Took us less than 30 minutes to go through the whole garden. Did not have tea and cake, because everything is in the open with insects buzzing around. The entrance fee is way to much.

Let me be clear that I would love to have a garden like this. A woodland walk, and a big manicured lawn leading down to a lake. It all looks good, from a distance. This is however a location that does not expect visitors and makes little provision for them.
Drive across an unpathed field to park. No one on the gate. You leave your entrance fee, grossly overpriced, in an honesty box. There is a leaflet, that you are expected to pay for additionally, giving details of the walk. Do not bother - it will take little more than 20 minutes to walk round the lake.
The lake, where seen from the house, is fine but at the further end it looks very sad indeed. The woods contain, among other rubbish, what appears to be a broken down tractor, surely a danger for children. There is some new planting but the woods are minimally maintained. Nearer the outbuildings there are planks of wood, and posts laying about, again a clear danger to children and the infirm.
The refreshment room is not attended and is an open, thatch-roofed, shed with a hot tea urn, and a few cakes, some of which was open to the local insect life when we visited. I did not see a food hygiene certificate.
I had not heard of this garden before this trip and I assume it is newly opened. Perhaps they should have waited until they were properly prepared for visitors, as there are many fine small gardens in Cornwall far more worthy of a visit.

We visited today in the June sunshine and thought it was the best garden we'd visited. We are visiting all the great gardens in Cornwall at the moment as we are restoring an ancient park and need inspiration! This was so beautifully planned, and the plants so unusual and so healthy, that we were very impressed. The lakes were very interesting, and the cakes were wonderful! Most enjoyable afternoon, thanks!
