Popped in on the way to another attraction but glad we did, plenty of activity in the skies and seeing these helicopters in action was brilliant, would strongly recomend a visit

“A visit is a must”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Started by going for a morning cuppa. The staff were so friendly and good fun we went back later for lunch Small menu but all adequate and reasonably priced Whilst there we decided to go on the coach tour of the station with v good commentary by Mary This is good value for money and highly recommended if you are interested in naval aircraft.

“Great way to spend 2 hours!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

The tour was meant to be 1hr 45 minutes but due to so much interest and questions, it was over 2 hours. Because we were not sure what to expect, the initial 10 minutes felt as though we had made a bad choice in that we were simply going from one building to the next in a minibus and not getting out to see anything. Then we made our first stop at the fire station where we had about 15 minutes to ask questions of the crew and explore the two airport fire engines that they use. We then went to another hanger where we got close up and personal with a Sea King Mk6 helicopter used for engineering training along with a numerous engines, gearboxes and everything else mechanically to do with helicopters. We then went to more hangers to look closely at Merlin HM-1 helicopters and Harrier jets used for aircraft carrier training. We also watched a number Merlin and Sea King helicopters performing exercises on and around the airfield.
There are two Hawks based here although we didn't see them on the tour but saw them on another day; the noise when they take off when you are standing behind them is felt rather than heard!
The visitor's centre is good for simple food and drinks and an ideal way to watch the helicopters when you have finished the tour.
They only operate the tour when they have are enough people signed up to go on it and they usually go at 2pm in the afternoon. You may need to be flexible with your days.

“Great tour of a working Navy base”
Reviewed April 30, 2013 via mobile

Me and my husband went here to watch the fighter jets and helicopters take off from the viewing enclose sure. The plan was to spend a little time and have a bite to eat, (I'd found this place on trip advisor). Little did we know that they did tours. So when we were asked if we'd like to go on a tour for £10 each we weren't sure. We're glad we did! 1hour and 45minutes later having been inside they training hangar for sea king helicopters and the on base fire station, and seeing up close aircraft taking off and landing, we got back to the food we'd ordered before we left! Brilliant afternoon!

“great afternoon lunch”
Reviewed April 26, 2013

great little cafe, the staff were very friendly and informative, who spoke to my son about all the different aircraft, lunch was fantastic, really very reasonable prices, and we saw a jet come into land and a helicopter take off, we went back up a few more times and just sat in the car park, without any more viewings, when we left to come home, a jet was landing and it came across the road right above us, it was fantastic you could see the pilot holding the controls it was that low and close, definatley worth a visit
