“A comfortable cottage in wonderful surroundings”

We spent two weeks at Rock Cottage in June 2013. The house was comfortable and has everything you may wish for. The location and views are simply spectacular. A sheltered garden with a lot of privacy and always the ever changing view with the tide coming in or going out.
We received a very warm welcome by Linda and Robin and appreciated the attention.
The area is great for hiking as we covered most of the coastal parhway of the Lizard Peninsula. Beautiful walks and very pittoresque villages.
Picture perfect!

“Nice cottage”
Reviewed June 5, 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Rock Cottage is in a beautiful location and within easy reach of great beaches and good pubs. We especially liked the food in Prince of Wales pub Newtown-in-St-Martin, Helston, Cornwall TR12 6DP The beds where very comfortable the kitchen well stocked and the little welcome pack was a nice touch. We had fun on Peggy and continued the Crabbing tradition.
Our only dislike was the immense number of rules and regulations which Linda likes to put all around the house. It made us feel uneasy and a little paranoid. We felt that we could not have a glass of red wine in the evening, in case we spilt it on the lovely very light carpet in the living room. Also the children felt they could not really be children in case they damaged anything by accident.
We feel overall that if you feel the need to focus on being over protective of everything in the cottage, then maybe you should not be renting it out.
Or maybe increasing the rental above the damage waiver to put your mind at rest and just put a note in the welcome pack to ask guests to be careful, and dispense with the little notes everywhere!
Would we return ”yes”

Management Response
Jun 9, 2013
What a pity Stephen W did not tell us about his unfounded concerns when he had the opportunity before. We asked if they were happy with everything and settled in and the reply was "It's just fabulous, thank you". They even made a similar comment to the local shopkeeper. Also, the entry in our Guest Book was entirely positive. So perhaps any nit-picking now could be due to his irritation and impatience on being told that the 36 hour delay in returning the damage deposit was entirely due to his own error when providing bank information.

There are no unnecessary rules. We have been letting Rock Cottage for over 50 years and our experience is that some guests need advice and guidance when staying in an unfamiliar property.

“"Perfect Peaceful Getaway!"”

Rock Cottage is absolutely amazing and breathtaking and would recommend it to anyone and everyone. The cottage was immaculate and had everything you could wish for and much more. The fresh flowers that were in various rooms were lovely and colourful and the welcoming tray of bread, scones and jam were a lovely thought and gesture. The Garden room was also immaculate and had amazing views from the virtually floor to ceiling windows looking out onto the garden and Helford river. My husband and our 8 year old daughter went out in 'Peggy' the rowing boat and had a wonderful time and also went catching river crabs while I sat in the garden and did some drawing. The cottage and surroundings are very picturesque and colourful if you wish to draw or paint. The woodland and garden are great for exploring for children and adults. The bed in the master bedroom is very, very comfy and the view from the bedroom window of the garden and Helford river is amazing. My daughter loved the pirate themed bedroom and the selection of books and asked everynight if she could read a book before she went to sleep. We put some bird seed out on the bird table every morning and had fun watching all the variety of birds having their breakfast while we had ours! There is so much to see and the view seems to change daily that I didn't realise how many photo's I'd taken of the cottage and surroundings let alone the other places we visited. Places of interest to visit; Kynance Cove is very picturesque but wear good walking shoes to climb over the stones and rocks to get to the beach. The Lizard. Polpeor Cove which is at The Lizard and has an old Lifeboat station dated 1914. Land's End, If you like old buildings then Bodmin Jail is very interesting. Coverack, Kennack Sands, St. Michaels Mount is a steep climb but worth a visit and Flambards is a good family day out as well. We met Linda and her daughter and both were very friendly and gave helpful advice about the cottage and surroundings.Already planning on going back in spring 2013. Thank you very, very much for the use of Rock Cottage which is the perfect getaway. Lisa and Neil Byrne (West Midlands).

“Small cottage, big view!”
Reviewed June 6, 2012 for a stay in May 2012

Rock Cottage is special for several reasons.
First its view of the Helford River and the tides. The slope going to the water and the dinghy full of bluebells and primroses. The house pheasant and robins and the history of the cottage literally built on a rock itself.it is well maintained and clean.
As the owners themselves write, it is small, we were with only 2 and could use the small children's room to store some of our luggage.
Also the bathroom, which is downstairs, is not too big. Only 2 big and 2 small towels are provided. There is a washing machine, but not a drier ofcourse, and you need sun to dry your stuff. You can ask owners to dry your laundry, but that s not what you want on a holiday. Even though Linda is very helpful. So perhaps a tip, some extra towels?
A nice touch were the bathrobes provided.
The masterbedroom has a big, very comfortable bed, good pillows, and is nicely furnished. What we liked less here were the thin curtains, letting through the early morning light, but also the headlamps of the passing cars.
The cottage front is literally on a country lane, which is absolutely quiet at night, but not so during the day.
You can go for a walk to Trelawarren from the cottage and RC is very near to all the Cornish highlights.
We unfortunately had bad weather, but the garden is lovely to sit in.
