After finding this hotel online when searching for Hotels in Fowey I found this one which stated it was about 2 miles up river from Fowey. I booked it because of the good reviews and the views on the website. I wasn't disappointed. I only booked for a one night break and was given directions by the hotel staff as was told sat nav can be unreliable. Found it easily, I read some reviews that said the drive to the hotel was a bit hairy but it wasn't too bad and just a bit steep up to the hotels drive. I booked a superior room with a balcony/decked area overlooking the river. AMAZING views and such a wonderful setting, cannot be beaten and the view is worth the price alone in my opinion. Room was of a decent standard, very clean with mini bar/fridge and easy chairs with table looking out over the balcony. One thing to mention, we also booked this hotel as it stated there was wifi in all rooms. This was a must for us as mobile reception in Cornwall is patchy at best and we wanted to keep in touch with the teenagers at home! Our room was at the far end of the hotel and because of this did not receive wifi. We mentioned this to reception and they offered us a change of room which was almost identical and closer to reception where wifi signal was a 'little' better. If you are relying on the wifi mention this when booking as all rooms do not get a good signal as stated. This was really our only gripe as eveything else was lovely. The hotel itself is nicely kept with nice outside seating in the gardens and lovely restaurant. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the bar in the evenings is nice and not overly priced. Some reviewers mentioned the walls were a bit thin and could hear other guests in their rooms. We did not find this a problem, we did hear the guests above us walking around but that was all. Maybe we were just lucky with quiet guests in the rooms next door to us. It was nice to be that bit out of Fowey. Golant is a lovely little place with a nice pub. We got a taxi into Fowey and back which cost us about £7 each way. Much easier than trying to park there. Would recommend this hotel and would definitely return again.

Room Tip: If you want wifi mention this when booking as not all rooms get a signal.

We have stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions and can honestly say that we have never been disappointed.
The location is just fantastic - so peaceful - and the staff without exception are all professional, friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
The swimming pool and hot tub are a lovely place to spend some relaxing time after a day out.
We always have a superior room which is clean and comfortable with wonderful estuary views.
The food and presentation are amazing.
We would certainly recommend and look forward to our next visit.

Thought we would check out hotel for future. Advertised afternoon tea, asked for 4 teas and cake. We got tea and lemon cake. Very disappointed, cake was dry and stale definitely not worth £26!! Will not risk staying there, we are not worried about the cost just the quality. Have to say the member of staff who dealt with us was very welcoming and courteous.

The food was extremely good, views excellent, but room had a mish mash of old furniture and you couldn't use the first floor balcony after it had rained as water dripped through from the above balcony. No privacy in bedroom unless you closed curtains due to construction of balconies adjoining.

In short - absolutely brilliant One of the best hotesl we have visited in UK
Good food, good views, good service. Perhaps a little overpriced. We will stay there again

We had a one night stay in August and wished it was longer.
The hotel was lovely and the views from the room amazing
The staff were pleasant and accomodating- we arrived early and were able to have our room within 10 mins
The best bit however was the dinner- the food was wonderful- great choice and completely delicious- enough to satisfy a healthy appetite- presentation and flauors were exceptional

The trip was a long weekend and it was booked at the last minute and was my first holiday in the UK for some time and I was interested to see if hotels in the UK had improved.

The first impressions was the gardens which are overgrown, the reception area was tired (as indeed was the whole hotel), the large window on the stairs was dirty with spiders webs and flies trapped within and this had obviously been there for some time. Indeed the reception area was dirty behind the desk, as was the bedroom when some gunge on the carpet remained there for the whole stay so it was obvious the hoover had not been used during our stay. The point is the rates that the hotel is charging these issues should not arise and I can't help but feel that there isn't the desire since they fill the rooms regardless due to the views from the hotel.

The dining room is also tired with tired rubber plants everywhere, no carpet just bare floorboards with dead plants in plant pots on the terrace just outside the restaurant. Why are these dying plants in the pots still around as well as the tired rubber plants in the restaurant.

The lounge is also tired with miss matched and random placing of the furniture and these comments extend to the bar area as well.

We had the bedroom above the restaurant and the noise from the restaurant impacted us because the chairs are dragged across the bare wooden floors and the very small tv had been modified to prevent us increasing the sound of the tv to overcome the noise from the restaurant.

The bathroom was modern and the shower we had was very powerful but there was evidence of fungus on the ceiling which I guess is due to the lack of a working extractor fan, while an attempt had been made to clean the fungus it has not been successful.

The bedroom proper - the bedding was nice but the bed was small, the Ikea cheap chairs were heavily stained as was the bedside tables and the carpet and there are a lack of plugs around the bedside tables.

The breakfast and food was good but the portions are small and guess this is an attempt to save on the food bill as the fresh fruit at the breakfast was a small bowl and if you were not first in the restaurant for breakfast then "when it's gone it's gone forever".

The staff where very attentive but we were advised when we arrived that there maybe trouble with the internet and when we tried there was. We put up with it for a while but on the 2nd day they advised that there was no problem and it must be my computer, the computer that had picked up the signal in other pubs in the area and had worked for a short while on the first morning. The same manager who advised that there maybe problems then advised me there was nothing wrong and that everybody was able to use it.

This left me angry because I don't believe he asked all the guests and guess perhaps most of them were not interested but then on the last day we got are tablet to work and the laptop for a small time. So why would the manager know all the other guests found the internet working and why didn't he just arrange for the internet provider to test the system out. When I checked other guests reviews of their stays I find others with complaints about the internet so now I am angry especially when you consider the cost of a night in this "faulty towers"

The issue is that this hotel is like a poor boarding house rather than a hotel and for a small increase in the room rate I could have a Hyatt Hotel experience, a true 5 star experience and considering some guests have enjoyed there stay then I don't see any chance of the management doing anything about the complaints especially when the hotel is full. If customers don't complain then this hotel is not going to change.

I will certainly give this hotel a wide berth in future and for me its a typical hotel in the UK in the 70's. Other than the internet issue the staff where helpful when asked to help with issues,
