“Great night away”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

My wife & I stayed for a night last weekend & had a very nice, chilled time at Fairbank. We were welcomed & shown to our room after we had checked in , which was clean had a stunning view & the most comfortable hotel bed that I have ever slept in ! We arrived back at the hotel & enjoyed a couple of drinks, early evening, on the decking area (again with stunning view & glorious sunshine!) Strange that we had yet to see or hear another guest & had the place to ourselves ! The hotel menu looked really nice, but as we were informed, that there was no other dinner reservations, we headed for the pub.
We were still yet to see or hear another guest & as the bar was deserted upon our return, we headed for your room. There was plenty of quality instant coffee & tea in the room.
Breakfast was beautifully cooked & had flexibility to suit everyone's taste and we finally saw other guests !
This break was just what we wanted. It was really chilled, with a 10 min stroll to the beach or 3 pubs, an idyllic situation for peace, quiet relaxation.
Our hosts were unobtrusive in their approach, but always really helpful with advice & recommendations.
We will definitely return soon & will try to book the Gannel room again & I would recommend anyone wanting a relaxing time out ,to visit the Fairbank Hotel.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have great sea views. We stayed in Gannel room

We are so pleased you had a relaxing, peaceful stay at the Fairbank Hotel. It is quite bizarre at times, that even when all the rooms are booked, the bar and dining room can be so quiet. It isn't always like that - sometimes every seat in the bar is occupied and we have a busy dining room. The hotel is well situated to walk to local pubs or venture out to try different dining experiences but we are always happy to serve evening meals to those who want them - quiet or busy! We hope to see you again.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this lovely, family run hotel. The welcome was so friendly and we loved the gorgeous view of Crantock Bay from our bedroom. Breakfast was very good and we foun the hotel facilities, setting etc excellent. We would definitely stay here again. Our only suggestion for improvement, and this is a totally personal view, would be to serve cafetieres of coffee at breakfast instead of filter coffee. We are coffee fiends and love fresh coffee but having said that our coffee cups were always being topped up. Thank you to Paul and Elaine for making our stay such a pleasant one.

Room Tip: Sea view was fantastic.

A 3 night stay recently with our 12 year old son was just perfect - ticking all of our boxes and more. My husband has been fortunate enough to experience many so called 5 Star Hotel's all around the world and firmly believes that owners/management/staff cultivate the atmosphere and make or break any hotel - that's why "Fairbank" is such a welcoming place to stay. We were made to feel at home right from the moment our reservation was made over the phone and this continued throughout our visit. The nearby beach is obviously a natural treasure and the evening meal not to be missed - Rick Stein eat your heart out!

We celebrated my sisters birthday (2 x couples) at this hotel weekend of 28/6/13. We use to visit Crantock in Cornwall as a family and had some lovely memories as children enjoying our summer holidays there. We choose the Fairbank Hotel due to it's location of Crantock village and reviews. We all enjoyed the lovely comfortable bedrooms and good breakfast we received as well as the great hospitality that Paul and Elaine greeted us with. Nothing was any trouble to them we really felt at ease and enjoyed our short stay there. We want to book again next year (August 2014) and bring our other sister as a special birthday surprise. Definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting it again next year. Stuart,Sally,Gavin & Della

Room Tip: Sea view bedrooms facing crantock bay beach - beautiful !

We have two young children & looking for adjoining hotel rooms. We had a lovely double room with a corridor that led to ensuite bathroom with a bath and another room with bunkbeds. It was perfect! Rooms are very clean & functional, breakfasts were great and owners couldn't have been more helpful. Hotel is set in a lovely location. The owners are very children friendly & were happy to accommodate breakfast requests etc. The nearby Crantock beach is stunning. This is within walking distance as is a lovey pub and costal walk. This is a stunning part of Cornwall and this is the perfect place to stay. Delightful holiday!

We would be very happy to welcome you all back sometime in the future. Thank you for taking the time to make your comments and glad you liked the rooms.

We spent two nights here on a tour of the south west of UK, visiting from USA. A lot of what you experience at a B&B depends on the character and personalities of the people who run it. We found these people to be extraordinarily good at what they do with the added bonus of being lovely people. The hotel itself is small and quite plain. If you're looking for chintz and bone china this isn't it. If you're looking for something grand ditto. Understated is the name of the game here. Warm, comfortable, welcoming, friendly, attentive without being intrusive, they honestly have it down to a fine art. I've never encountered such a relaxed, unhurried, simply charming atmosphere in any place I have ever stayed. We arrived as usual exhausted from trying to see/do too much and were earlier than expected- no big deal. Went up and crashed on the bed then took stock of the quite magnificent view of a somewhat surly Cornish coast. Again, if you're looking for heart-stopping beaches I think you could start somewhere else besides the UK but understated, moody, full of atmosphere, wild and unspoiled by development- bingo. Huge window in the room, lying on the bed looking out at the sea- total Zen. (Weather not great while we were there)
We ordered afternoon tea - scones and clotted cream of course ( we were on a scones and cream odyssey) which we had downstairs again looking out on that beautiful view. We ate dinner there both nights, fresh, local, home cooking served with unassuming friendliness. Cornish strawberries and clotted cream to die for. Our hosts quietly padding about in bare feet serving beautiful food- another zen moment and to top it off Adele playing on the soundtrack while we are looking out at that moody sea just took it to a whole other level.
We did the coastal walk to Holywell which was a joy even in poor weather. Stopped at the tiny pub for a drink and walked back to Crantock.
Wonderful, family run hotel- two year old grand-daughter served us our breakfast toast- what a delight .We would go back in a heartbeat.

The hotel is a great base with a beautiful beach and quaint town just a short stroll away. The view of the bay from our room was amazing.

I did not realise that this hotel was only a 2 star until I was told by the owners. It may be small but it is the best 2 star we have stayed in! The owners couldn't do enough to make our stay pleasant. The hotel is clean and bright and for its class, I would highly recommend it for both families and couples.

Glad you enjoyed your stay. Crantock beach is certainly a beautiful beach and has been voted in the top 10 recently in 2 separate polls. We are lucky to have it so close. Hope to welcome you back here again in the future.
