Description: Cornwall is renowned for its stunning coastal locations and dramatic seascapes, and if you haven't visited The Bowgie Inn in Crantock near Newquay, you're yet to see the best. Situated on West Pentire Headland overlooking the stunning Crantock Bay, the views from this famous pub will take your breath away. The surrounding area is a walker's paradise sandwiched between the unspoiled beaches of Crantock and Polly Joke. It's just a short stroll from The Bowgie to the coastal path which will take you on a circular walk of the headland, passing both beaches. On route, you'll be treated to spectacular views of the wild Atlantic Ocean, spot seabirds at play and work up a well-deserved appetite. A 'Taste of the West' Member, The Bowgie's traditional menu includes prime selected ingredients, Cornish produce, great food offers, local ales, well-chosen wines, an acclaimed luxury hot chocolate, and of course, the pub's famous Sunday Roast Dinner served all day. The Bowgie is open everyday from 11am, serving great pub lunches from 11am - 3pm and evening meals from 5pm - 9pm on week days and all day on Saturday and Sunday. Food is also served all day during school holiday periods. With fantastic sea views, lots of seating inside and out and a sun terrace for those warm Summer evenings, The Bowgie and the surrounding area is the perfect place to explore all year round. With a large private car park right outside the door, this must-visit Cornish treasure is accessible for all.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Bowgie and visit regularly. The beer and staff service are both excellent and the views across the beach and headland are stunning. It is - as others have pointed out though - disappointing that the food is not up to the same standard. I have now had four meals here - ordering something different on each occasion and hoping that, though the previous experience may have been disappointing, that this time will be better.

Unfortunately I can now say - based on more than a one off experience - that the food is not great - which is a shame as I would want to eat there more often. I know it is possible to do well cooked pub food at reasonable prices (see the pub north of Porthcothan beach - Tredea?), so come on Bowgie - how about it?

The bowgie inn over looking crantock bay is a top location. A seat in the beer garden offers views of the Atlantic surf hitting golden beaches. Drinks include rattler cyder together with St Austell tribute and sharps doombar together with a number of lagers. The food is excellent with a good selection for everyone. (we have boys age 9 and 11). Check out the special board, I recommend the curry selection and the steak for a tenner on sat night is ace. For me there aren't many places id rather be.

4 adults and 2 children in my group today eating here, views superb, prices steep.
The T-Bone steaks were over cooked and didn't have the great flavour I expected for the price of them. My children enjoyed their meals but said the chips were greasy. My wife had Cod & Chips...£10...it was a frozen piece of supermarket fish....full of bones and hardly any fish encased inside the mountain of over cooked batter it was in.
The chips were frozen and of poor quality, very crunchy and greasy and seemed to have been "re-fried".
Not worth the money but was edible.
The views are something I will remember and not the food.

Decided to go out of Newquay for an evening, and chose this splendid pub. Atmosphere was really nice and has a great choice of beers with plenty of seating inside and outside, it really is a big pub with one side offering entertainment. We had a splendid price which was very reasonably priced for a family of four and the view of Crantock beach in the late sun added to the enjoyment. I really could not fault this pub and would highly recommend it
