“Needs a makeover?”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

Reviews of this place seem a bit mixed and I think I can see why.
Like some other reviewers, we stayed there recently to attend a naval passing out parade at HMS Raleigh - for which the Liscawn is very well situated.
However, our room seemed a bit shabby and could (in all honesty) have been a bit fresher, particularly the bathroom..
Breakfast (full English) was generous, but apart from the oft-quoted joke about two choices (eat it or don't eat it) there were no options given. The toast was (shall we say) rather well cooked.
Bar food wasn't bad - but I never did work out whether the proprietor was trying to make a joke or was just being off-hand when I asked what was in the Fish Platter. His reply was "fish". Other attempts at communication were just about as successful.
Would I stay there again?
Sorry - no, not if I had a choice, thanks.

I stayed here for 2 days in August 2012 with family for my sons passing out at HMS Raleigh which is an approx ten minute drive.
The setting was beautiful very peaceful and welcoming.
The rooms were pleasant with a wall mounted TV and tea/coffee facilties in the room (bottles of water & fudge also) and the ensuite bathrooms were spotless.
The breakfast was a hearty fry up along with toast cereal etc -very nice.
We used the bar both nights - the alcohol wasnt overpriced and the food was good home cooking nothing too fancy ( which suited my elderly father ) and again great value for money - I would recomend eating here.
I liked the way it was a casual home from home approach by the owners - both of whom were pleasant and courteous.
Overall it was great value - well priced - well situated - and a bar which sells great food and drink with a homely and casual feel to the premises.

The hotel is very well run and the view was fantastic.Paul and his wife were good hosts and looked after us.The rooms could do with modernising but overall a pleasant stay.

The Liscawn Inn is in a beautiful setting. We stayed in Room 9 ( Double and single bedded room) which was in the converted barn area.
The room was large enough for the three of us and the facilities very good.
Overall the experience was really good. The breakfast was very nice with large portions and plenty of tea, toast, cereals and fruit juice etc.
We stayed for two nights and the complimentary tea/coffee/ milk etc was replenished for us.
If we are back in this area we will certainly return!!
Friends stayed in Room 8 and their experience was much the same.
Very good trip made special by staying at The Liscawn.

We would like to say a very BIG (belated) thank you to Paul and Fiona for all their hard work hosting our wedding reception this July at the Liscawn Inn. They are a lovely, really friendly couple.

From the very first time we met Paul and Fiona they filled us with confidence that everything would be taken care of for our special day and I have to say we weren't disappointed at all. The attention to detail and the feeling that nothing was too much trouble made organising the event so easy.

We booked all of the rooms at the Liscawn Inn for two nights, the night before and the night of the wedding. All of our guests were very happy with their rooms, particularly commenting on the cleanliness and the beautiful setting. The accessible rooms were also a great help to accomodate our guests with reduced mobility. Most of our guests enjoyed a lovely meal in the bar on the first night and were pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable drinks prices.

Paul and Fiona gave us their full attention the day before the wedding to confirm the arrangements and ensure we were happy with the table layout, decorations etc.

Our ceremony was held at Mount Edgcumbe House which is only about a 15 minute drive away. However, this did not stop us being very late for our wedding breakfast as we got stuck in a traffic jam in nearby Mousehole due to the Maker Festival!! This must have really put a lot of pressure on Paul and Fiona who were trying to prepare a 3 course meal for 45 guests. We would especially like apologise to Fiona for the difficulty this no doubt caused and also thank her for the wonderful meal she served.

We really had a wonderful wedding weekend, just what we had hoped for. The Liscawn is a great place for an intimate, relaxed Cornish wedding!

I would not hesitate to return to the Liscawn Inn and I believe many of our wedding guests would too.

Thanks!!

We arrived on Friday evening for a wedding on the Saturday to a warm welcome from the owners. The food in the bar was very good especially the puddings. The wedding was perfect with the owners and staff going out of there way to make the day and evening go smoothly. Our only complaint was the bedroom and ensuite were a bit outdated but the treats were appreciated.
A lovely venue for a wedding and would return for a relaxing weekend

My wife and I would like to thank Paul & Fiona Ingall for a superb weekend. On the 10/09/11 we got married at the Liscawn and made full use of the facilities on offer by holding our ceremony and reception all under one roof. Are Guests made full use of the available rooms on offer. Paul and Fiona have been very accommodating and we cannot thank them enough for there help, hospitatality and warmth. The food was fantastic the bar prices unlike many other venues are not pushed up because its a wedding and the setting and venue as a whole are perfect.

Thank you Simon & Terri
