The Great Flat Lode Trail
Reviewed August 14, 2013

At this time of the year the brambles and undergrowth are rampant. Also the word 'Flat' is a misnomer.....it isn't.

I rented a bike and did this trail (4) times in July.
Each time, I rented the bike in Bissoe and biked to Portreath via various routes.

The trail is mostly flat with gentle inclines.
The route offers plenty of places to stop and relax or explore along the way.

If you intend to go to Portreath, there are some small sections which are on the road, but there are usually on a sidewalk or adjacent path.

Portreath has about (4) eating options. I like the Portreath bakery for their cappucinos and tasty rubarb cakes.

I highly recommend the bike rental shop in Bissoe (wish they had their own tripadvisor site)
They kit you out with an excellent bike (mountain or hybrid) + map, pump, spares, toold), all at a reasonable daily rate.

The trail is a great place to walk or bike on, with many different exit & entry points depending on how far you want to go. Also very good for trail running.

Lovely trail, nice wide walkways suitable to walking, cycling and horse-riding. Many areas are flat, however can be a hill to climb to get onto the track. We lived near the Redruth side and it was a 10 minute walk to get the track and from it we could access Carn Brea Hill which is great for walking up. There are lots of pathways to get up the hill, although some are narrow with more difficult footing (not a proper path). Great place to go all year round.

This trail is fantastic for cyclists, horse riders, runners and walkers alike. We do all of the above except horse riding and love it, especially when it's been wet and it gets a bit muddy! You can't beat a good cycle ride in the mud! It's only 5 mins from our house so we go a up there a lot. Very pretty and very quiet, although you do encounter a couple of roads they are very quiet.
