“Idilic doesnt do it justice”

I suppose part of me wanted to go to Boscastle following the horrendous floods in 2004 but then again I suspect that is why most people now go.

It was instantly recognisable from the new pictures and is a fantastic place. There are some lovely shops and cafes and the car park is resonably priced. You can walk all through the village and right down to the harbour entrance with stunning views.

The visitor centre has a big display on the floods and it is not until you stand where vehicles were thundering down what used to be a gentle stream you really understand what happened. It is amazing that no one was killed.

“Boscastle Overview”
Reviewed May 31, 2010

Just returned from a bank holiday weekend away. Stayed in a lovely, homely cottage at the top of the town. Word of warning - if you are staying towards the top end of Boscastle then the walk up the hill is a bit of a challenge!
Lovely, pretty town with some great little gift shops - very reasonably priced. Pleasant walk through the harbour area although disappointing not to find a beach at the end!
Took our dog on holiday for the first time and was extremely impressed at being able to take him into pubs and shops - a novelty for somebody from the city.
Would highly recommend the bar at the Wellington Hotel - very welcoming and comfortable. Also the Napoleon Inn at the top of the town. We ate there twice and couldn't fault the food - absolutely outstanding. Recommend booking a table though as very popular. It also didn't hurt that this pub was just 12 paces from the door of our holiday cottage!
Good day out can be had at Trevarthick Strand - about 4 miles drive from Boscastle. Great beach with great waves and rockpools. Lovely pub - the Port William - overlooking the beach where a great afternoon can be spent.
