“Best B&B”
Reviewed October 9, 2011

I was served like in a 5-stars hotel at Riverside. The location is only few mins walk from the coastline. The only picky point for me is the floor makes a bit creaking sound when you walk. The breakfast is over expected, and also the dinner is very good for value. Overall, Riverside is the best B&B I never stayed at.

The Riverside has a fantastic location, but the menu needs to reviewed or the cook renewed. The ingredients are very good, but the presentation needs to be brought up to date. The Dining room furniture too could do with a change for something that better utilizes the area. The current decor far too heavy and resembles something from an Austrian ski resort.
The rooms need to be upgraded and and could do with a workspace. But the WiFi signal and bandwidth allocated is far too limited. This is a general fault with many small hotels who do not fully understand the need for adequate bandwidth and signal strength.
No bedtime reading though. The bedside lamps have been equipped with energy saving light bulbs that barely emit the light of a candle.
The flowing river/brook outside the window is a wonderful sound to fall asleep to.
Sadly the kitchen ventilation fan wakes you in the morning.

Room Tip: Rooms towards the river/brook have a great ripple sound to help put you to sleep. Rooms facing the...

Have just stayed at The Riveside with a couple of mates whilst we toured Devon, Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor on our motorcycles. Ross and his staff are brilliant. Rooms brilliant, service brilliant and the food is fantastic. If I had to be really, really picky then I would mention briefly that there is no dedicated parking for the house and also the cheap and nasty sausages used in the otherwise superb breakfast. I would put The Riverside into a bracket that is way above and beyond what would normally be considered as a normal, typically poor B&B, a first class operation.

The location was fantastic, especially for the Coastal Path. Right in the middle of the village. The food was out of this world and during our 5 day stay we ate there every night! There was plenty of variety with locally sourced fresh ingredients, all very well cooked - the only criticism might be that the portions were too big so if you had a starter and main there was no way you could have a lovely sweet! The staff were very attentive and nothing seemed too much trouble. The room was quite a big disappointment, although it was basically clean, the bedding was washed out and tired and the pillows were the lumpiest I have ever encountered! The room was also extremely hot - some of this may have been down to the fact that the weather was very warm but there was also heat coming from under the floor and there were only two very tiny windows.

Room Tip: Dont choose room 6 - its too hot!

We arrived to a friendly welcome and were shown to a lovely room overlooking the river. Plenty of storage for a stay of several nights and a large bathroom with bath and shower. Very comfortable. We were not sure about booking for dinner but are glad we did. The choice, quality and value of the meal was superb and we ate in the restaurant every night. Again, pleasant and friendly staff. Breakfast was another delight with a great choice and top-quality food. Highly recommended; we hope to return.

Having had many Cornish family holidays as a child, I decided to take my son for 5 nights. We stayed at The Riverside and it was a good choice. Clean, efficient and friendly with a good standard of dining which was head and shoulders above what was offered locally. Our room was spaceous, clean and comfortable. Evening meals were excellent too; so much so that we ate there for 3 nights. The house wine was very drinkable. A shame there wasn't a good choice of cider.
Breakfast was of a high standard with plenty of choice from smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, to haddock and poached eggs or full English.
The two things I missed most were thick cut, dark marmalade and good quality tea (plus a choice of tea such as Twining's). The only draw back was having to pay to park up the road £4.50 per day. However if you went out for the day it brought the cost down returning after 4 pm.
My iphone didn't work as there was no signal. Orange network may have been more successful.

The National Trust coastline is stunning as you walk towards Tintagel. The Eden Project is well worth seeing and not far away. Also worth a look are the Tamar Otter Centre and Bodelwyddan House. You can even try your hand at coasteering if you fancy a dip.
