“Decent food at a decent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

Clean, well presented with plenty of outdoor seating, which was greatly appreciated as it was incredibly hot on the day we visited Boscastle.

Great choice of food to choose from complete with some recommendations and insight into the food from the staff, who were very polite.

The food itself was presented well and combined with the taste went down very well and despite being busy there was a very little waiting time for the food and reasonably priced too.

I am also very pleased you found the food well priced and well presented and the premises clean, looks like we are hitting the mark, we aim to please.

“Terrible food-a total rip off!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 12, 2013

We visited the cafe for lunch. We wish we had gone somewhere else! The waitress serving us was rude even when ordering and the food was even more apalling. I ordered the vegetable lasagne which was supposed to come with salad and garlic bread. What I actually got was a very small portion of something barely qualifying as lasagne and more reminisecnt of something a dog might have sicked up with a bit of manky salad on the side. No garlic bread in sight. This for a charge of £6-id call that daylight robbery! Luckily I had ordered some chips as well which were OK. We left feeling hungry and ripped off-over £18 for 2 drinks and two bad meals, so hungry that we had to call in to the bakery next door!!! Take our advice-give sails cafe a wide berth and pick somewhere else!

It is a shame that this review, sandwiched between 2 excellent one, exists.

I regret that on receiving your meal deal, which is advertised as including Vegetable Lasagne and salad, that when you asked the waitress if it included garlic bread and were told no, the more expensive meal on the main menu includes garlic bread, it would have cost you an extra £1.95 for 2 slices, homemade, but you didn't order that.
I am saddened that after 3/4 of a pound of lasagne, plus salad and a bowl of chips you were still hungry, but if you were that hungry perhaps you might have pointed it out and we would have been happy to recommend a more filling choice.
You were clearly expecting more than can be offered in terms of volume for money, however we offer freshly prepared food, served to a high standard to suit a moderate budget.

Mostly I regret that you didn't ask for a manager on the day, we would have happily explained the difference between the main menu and the offers on the chalk board and although you still wouldn't have received a main menu choice for a meal deal price, perhaps you would have felt less disgruntled?

I happen to be very pleased with my staff, most of whom have either worked for us for many months or have returned to work for the holidays, if one wasn't up to scratch on the day then, we are saddened however, this should have been looked at by a manager at the time.

Clearly you won't be rushing back, but if you do, please make yourself known and we will explain our menu to you and cheerfully advise you on the best choice of food to suit your appetite on the day.

If anyone is still reading this response, thank you for bothering to hear our side, we work incredibly hard in our small business, we take time to train our staff, are constantly looking for ideas to keep our prices as low as possible without compromising on quality . It doesn't help when a customer doesn't let us know when they feel things aren't quite right on the day, because that is our only opportunity to make things right and that is all we wish to do.

“Good Value”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

In Cornwall even simple food can be expensive. It seems to be a principle of this restaurant that it will provide simple food at reasonable (anywhere in the country) prices and it succeeds. So don't pay the tourist prices in some (but not all) of the pubs in Boscastle, eat at the Sails!

“Three Thumbs Up - It's That Good”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 8, 2013

It is not often that a Cafe deserves a special mention but Sails Cafe is just one such place. Immediately the Plaice and Chips (two for £12) leaves you open mouthed at the size of the portions and then the smell. Bang on the money!

The Miner's Pasty....now this is worthy of at least a 60 mile round trip to purchase one. Priced at just £3 for what was without a doubt.....and I need to build up to this statement carefully, as a man who must have even over 400 pasties in my life.....it was, and shall henceforth be known as, "THE BEST PASTY I HAVE EVER EATEN" - Ever. The Blackberry Pudding was, sublime.

As for the rest of the Cafe....staffed by the same crew years round so you get a 100% service with prices that match reasonable and everyday persons pockets.

An absolute MUST if you visit Boscastle. Well run and well staffed.

100% go here.
