“Elegant, excellent dining in a beautiful location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2011

My family and I stayed in Crackington Haven, six miles from Boscastle at the end of August 2011. We found the Wellington Hotel in Boscastle during our travels and booked the Waterloo restaurant for an evening dinner. The food was superb. Perfect portion sizes (ie not piled high and falling off the plate!), rather, just the right amount, beautifully presented. The children's menu was equally excellent and offered fine dining style food but aimed at a younger palate. The menu also included a selection of starters for children - a nice touch. The wine selection was also extremely good. All in all a first rate restaurant, friendly and efficient service and thouroughly delicious food.

“Historic hotel in Boscastle with great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2011

I have eaten in the restaurant and the bar at 'the Welly' and both are great. For a special occasion do book in at the restaurant as the food is fantastic and the decor created by Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen is lovely. The bar food is also very good, you have the option of sitting on the first floor for a bit more privacy or in the bar area itself. Service was excellent and staff friendly and helpful. It's hard to believe that the flood waters reached so high within the building but it goes to show how resilient the people of Boscastle are. The choice of food is broad and having eaten at the Wellington a number of times have never been disappointed.

“Historic food in a historic setting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2011

Whilst staying in Plymouth last week, we headed for Tintagel (who can resist King Arthur’s castle) and then on to Boscastle where we decided to eat at the Wellington Hotel on the spur of the moment. We opted to eat in the Waterloo Restaurant upstairs, as the bar was full, which turned out to be a revelation. One of our party is allergic to shellfish of the crustacean variety but all fears were washed away by the Maitre D’, who assured us one of the chefs had the same problem so understood. My husband and I started with the chicken liver parfait accompanied by slices of toasted olive bread and a little stewed apple (historic) and my daughter had the best, most intensely flavoured pea & ham soup she and I have ever tasted. The main courses did not disappoint – sea bass, John Dory with an extraordinary potato croquette filled with soft lemony mash with parsley, and a pork fillet dish with chorizo and chick peas. However, the stars of the whole show were the desserts – my husband chose the Macaroon which was an explosion of beautiful flavours beautifully executed and my daughter and I shared a vanilla pannacotta with caramelised pecans and an ice-cream of similar flavour – epic. The staff were completely lovely and the Maitre D’ very knowledgeable, informative and helpful. We intend to save up, starve ourselves and return asap.
