The last weekend of March I stayed at the Best Western Plus Intercourse Village. I have stayed at this property many times and have often had breakfast at this restaurant. After a restful night sleep I proceeded to the restaurant for breakfast. It was quite a transformation from my previous visits. It is about double the size of the previous restaurant and now has an old mill theme. The restaurant was the location of a steam powered mill around the turn of the century so the owner decided to honor that memory with the new theme. It works! The host was the owners tween son. This is really a family operation, a welcome step back in time. Our server was an actual Amish woman who was happy to share here experiences of working at the property and some insights of Amish life. Her name tag proudly proclaimed that she has worked there for 14 years!
All guests receive 40 percent off breakfast. I chose the farmers breakfast which consisted of two eggs, scrapple, home made hash browns, unlimited coffee and coffee cake. The price of all that with the discount was 4 bucks! When I asked for extra cream the Amish server joked and asked if I wanted a few more creamers or she wanted me to bring the car in from out back. I thought that quite funny.
The eggs were cooked to perfection. I have no idea how they get the scrapple so crunchy while still being flavorful but I yet to duplicate the preparation. The server was pleasant without being intrusive and informative about the menu. It was quite a pleasant experience at a wonderful price.
Whether you are staying at the hotel property or not I highly recommend eating at this restaurant for an authentic Lancaster County experience. Don't miss it for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. One warning. Like a lot of attractions in Lancaster County the restaurant is closed on Sunday.
