“Great Sunday lunch and an ongoing beer and cider festival”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2012

Recently refurbished The Sussex Arms offers good honest pub food and a whole plethora of visiting cask beers and cider. It has a huge garden and welcomes families and dogs. It is worth arriving early on a weekend to get a seat. Well priced and good environment.

“A great pub, with fantastic real ales & ciders”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 10, 2012

Please don't rush there. I've been trying to keep it as Twickenhams best kept secret! It is fantastic, the only failing is that it still sells rubbish lager! But if you ignore the Vier pump, they have the best range of well kept ales & ciders in Twickenham. Usually 12 varied and interesting brews to choose from. It's like a perpetual real ale festival.
The food is also very good with good value good quality traditional pub meals.
However it isn't a huge pub, and as more people hear about it, it gets more and more crowded. I like the crowds and the atmosphere, especially on sunny rugby days when the garden comes alive. However if you like lager an empty pub and want piped music with big TV screens you'll hate his pub!
But please don't tell anyone about it, it's a secret!

“Great local real ale pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2012

I believe this pub was spruced up in the Summer of 2010. Two open fireplaces welcome you in the Winter and a large comfortable beer garden in the Summer. The real ales change often along with other little known ciders creating a dynamic pub for any who like a wide range of beverage. There is a loyalty card that gets stamped on every pint ordered, the tenth beer being free. Ales are priced around the £3 mark so for a regular drinker it works out at about £2.70 a pint. Food is served here and does look pretty good but I only go for the beer at the moment. The staff are knowledgable and let you have a taste of any beers prior to buying.

“Revitalised Pub that is now doing a roaring trade. Good Beers and Ciders.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

This had been a run down venue until it changed hands and has now seen a complete makeover. Lots of staff, good Ale choices and Ciders make this and the Prince Blucher well worth a stop off if you're near Twickenham Green

“Best pub in Twickenham”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 8, 2012

I shouldn't really give this place a great review. Having been refurbished with new owners, it's very popular, and it can quite often be difficult to get a seat as the place isn't that big. The beer garden is huge though so I'm looking forward to summer.
There's a fantastic range of good beer and cider, and there's still a couple of lagers for those who want them. The staff will let you try anything from the pumps before you buy. Prices are very reasonable.
There are a couple of open fires, and music is supplied by a record player. And they have some decent records too.
I haven't eaten a meal there, but one Sunday when I was there they can round with free Yorkshires and roast veg, which were lovely.
The only real fault is that, unlike the Swan or the Barmy Arms, it's not next to the river. And it could do with being closer to my house.
