“Done to a turn.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2014

Enjoyed a lovely dinner and a few drinks with a friend. Called to book a table perhaps an hour before dining and was accommodated. The staff were attentive and able to offer suggestions about food choices.

The menu is essentially Italian. The setting is comfortable and friendly. Neither crowded nor deserted for a mid evening Dinner. A nice little restaurant that I will get to know more.

“Great food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

The category 'pizzas' in tripadvisor doesn't do the restaurant justice. It offers a full range of Italian food and I had an excellent sea bass dish. The food was beautifully cooked and the service was excellent - very friendly as mentioned in other reviews.

“A little bit of this, a little bit of that”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

When we visited Brula across the road, we'd noted this restaurant and made a note to ourselves to give it a try. It also came recommended. So on Saturday evening, following a drive back from Birmingham, we did.

The restaurant was very busy at just after 8.00pm on a Saturday evening. We'd not booked but there was a spare, small table near the front of the establishment. The tables are VERY packed in - it's just as well we didn't get two pizzas - there wouldn't have been room on the table for a pair.

You can eat for a reasonable price - stick with pizza and pasta, have no starters and choose your wine carefully. We didn't do that. I had as a starter scallops with broad beans and chorizo. The beans were a wee bit bland but the chorizo was lovely as were the scallops - perfectly cooked, just barely opaque. It's a shame there were only two of them. My partner had a mixed fried/grilled seafood plate - large shrimp, mussels and calamari. This too was quite tasty, especially the shrimp.

As a seafood lover, I had seabass on a bed of salmon and prawn mascarpone polenta with a tomato salsa. This was delicious - the fish was beautifully cooked and the polenta (something I'm not normally overly keen on). My other half had pork medallions with an utterly delicious fruity sauce.

Accompanying this we had a very pleasant Italian white wine - the waiter tried to recommend the second most expensive wine on the menu - we declined that and instead went for one of their cheaper (!) wines at £20.95. It was nice - quite fruity.

Although we were full, we couldn't resist sharing a lemon creme brulee - again, very tasty - a warm crust and a smooth, cool creme.

The service was efficient though not overly friendly - a bit more...charm...wouldn't have gone amiss. For a full two and a half course meal, it was a bit pricey - the bill for the two of us with the tip was closing on £100. However you could dine much more cheaply here. There were a number of families - lots of small children, all of whom were thankfully fairly well behaved - and I am sure they did not spend the kind of money we did. Pizzas and pastas will run you between £10 - £16 ish - I would think you probably wouldn't need much else.

I will re-visit, but I think I'd not do so for the full three courses - it's a bit expensive for a casual dining experience.

“Superb food, incredible service, lovely ambience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2014

We seem to have eaten at Brocca more than at home over the past few weeks, what with two BIG birthdays to celebrate and various other excuses to dine sublime! What always impresses us is just how friendly the staff are - they get the balance between attentiveness and privacy just right. And the food is consistently of a very high standard, whether for 25+ as a big gathering or 2+ as an intimate dinner. We thoroughly recommend the new menu - the scallops starter is one of the best starters we've ever had!
